Some of the time leading up to a game’s release has nothing to do with development. It goes gold, the marketing cycle begins, copies start printing and then much later it’s opening day at the box office. You can’t keep designers and coders on the payroll if they aren’t doing anything, so studios throwing them [...]

November to rock a bit harder thanks to Brutal Legend DLC
October 28th, 2009 · 2 Comments
Christian Slater. Elton John. Jake “The Snake” Roberts. What do they have in common? They have nothing to do with this topic. I just needed an introduction for my article.

Launch DLC for Dragon Age sure to cause an unnecessary stir
October 9th, 2009 · 3 Comments
At first glance, BioWare’s launch DLC for Dragon Age: Origins seems like an evil scheme to charge consumers for content that could have been included on the disc. That’s the conclusion I jumped to anyway. Good thing I read the press release in its entirety, rather than rushing to WordPress to post a spirited reaction.

The DLC Debate: Download or Disc?
September 14th, 2009 · 16 Comments
SGC member PikminGuts92 and I had an INTERNET ARGUMENT last night. Well, nay, it was a minor disagreement on Twitter. As we’re both big players of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, it was totally about those games. And how Rock Band is doing it better.
Well, in my eyes anyway. In terms of DLC. You get [...]
PAX 09: Titan Studios stuffing more content into Fat Princess
September 5th, 2009 · 5 Comments
Like a classy dame on a three-day cake binge, Fat Princess is about to expand. Wait. Stop the presses. That was way too corny. Let me try again. Titan Studios set to fatten Fat Princess. No. Titan Studios to add an extra layer of icing to Fat Princess. Son of a bitch! This is so [...]

June 29th, 2009 · 1 Comment
Brightly hued button pummeling news now, with Brian Hayes, a producer on Fight Night Round 4, teasing (via interview) that face button controls could be coming to the rollickingly realistic slugfest simulator. All the details can be found in a rather handy compartment, located after the jump.

E3 09: Does “exclusive” mean anything these days?
June 3rd, 2009 · 13 Comments
Last month we heard the news that Fallout 3 was releasing cross-platform DLC outside of Microsoft, allowing PS3 owners to play the previously MS-exclusive downloadable content for themselves on the Sony console. This DLC was previously touted as never coming to the PS3.
Yesterday, Sony announced that Final Fantasy XIV would appear “exclusively” on PlayStation 3. [...]

A Bird In The Hand… Timed DLC Exclusivity
May 19th, 2009 · 24 Comments
It’s been a while since I’ve written an outright rant, but today I woke up to the news that Fallout 3’s DLC will be coming to the PS3 and it just hit me wrong. No, not the fact that the DLC is coming to the PS3; a lot of people figured it probably would. What [...]

SG Review: Fable II: See the Future (DLC)
May 12th, 2009 · 3 Comments
Murgo doesn’t ask for much. In fact, most of the items in his vibrantly hued caravan are reasonably priced. Well, that is if you don’t care much for serenity, perkiness, good health, clarity or praise. You see, the ingorant old charlatan, once more, is unaware of the true value of his goods. In the same [...]

Harmonix nabs Renegade for the Rock Band music store
April 18th, 2009 · 1 Comment
Every music game fan has a list of songs that would be perfect for Rock Band and Guitar Hero. I am no different. However, for me, two tunes stand above the rest: Megadeth’s “Peace Sells” and Styx’s “Renegade.”
Last year, Harmonix made me happier than a fat kid in a bakery when the company revealed that [...]
