Rothbart’s Rant #6 – "The Final Countdown" Edition· No Comments |
by Sean “rothbart” Workman
Oh yeah, now that I have Europe’s Final Countdown clawing its way up from the recesses of your memory… it’s time for another rant. No wait, better yet. I’ll start this rant in 3 days, 12 hours, 39 minutes, and 16 seconds… 15… 14… 13… okay. You might see where this is going.
I understand the idea behind a countdown timer. Some cool event is happening at some predetermined time in the future and you want your anticipation and excitement building inversely proportional to the time left until that event. An event so monumentally important to you that… you have to have an automated “backwards clock” tell you when it has arrived? Maybe you’ve been consuming a little too much Nutrasweet in your diet causing early onset Alzheimer’s? I know I’m a candidate… Diet Dr. Pepper FTW!
So we’ve covered the what and the why, but here’s the part I don’t get. [Article continued after the jump...]

Let Us All Inundate The Internet With More Inane Personal Minutiae· 9 Comments |

Editor’s Note: One of the best blogs I’ve seen from the SG Community, now, here it is for you. Unedited and under the lights. Congratulations Vindis!
By Vindis
Before I begin, I would just like to make it clear that I’m a pretty big fan of the internet. I spend a lot of time on the internet, and I’ve seen a lot of weird, freaky nonsense. But it’s rare that I see something to which the only response can be:
That is completely unnecessary.
And that mostly happens when people send me links from 4chan.
I would also like to say that my nerdrage is brought to you via watching all of Zero Punctuation last night, but my rant will have none of the accent and quite assumably none of the humor. Anyway!
Today I would like to address the issue of Twitter, because nothing has been annoying me more for the past few weeks than the concept of Twitter…

Preview – The Political Machine 2008· 48 Comments |

NOTE: You can win this game BEFORE you can buy it, from Sarcastic Gamer! See details at the end of the preview!
Every once in a while a game comes along that seems so creative, I get this little feeling in my left pinky toe. Kind of a tickle. That tickle usually indicates the game will be incredible. (On occasion it just meant I needed bigger socks.)
Today, Stardock released a handful of screenshots for The Political Machine 2008 that have my toe doing cartwheels in my Croc. I love games like this, and it’s hard to say exactly why. I’ll try with pics and a general overview after the jump. [continue reading →]

42. The Video Game Awards· 1 Comment |
In case none of you heard, Spike TV puts on a video game show. This is the fifth year they have done it. You’d think they would have got it right by now. You’d think.
Third rate celebrities. Terrible game nominations. Plugs galore by “actors” who probably have never played a video game. Basically two hours of selling you crap.
Find out how their fifth straight fudge up made the Top 100 after the jump. [continue reading →]

Two new grapplers vie for UFC’s fighting crown· 2 Comments |

As it is in the world of grappler games, THQ’s UFC: Undisputed series is the, erm, undisputed champion. 2010′s entry into the flourishing series is, as I put it back when it came out, “a deep, involving scrapper with far more to offer than the sweaty, cuddling men on the surface”.
Come October, THQ’s own WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 and EA’s EA Sports MMA will be vying for UFC‘s grappler crown and the money in your wallet. It’s time to square these two fighters up against one another and see who might just come out on top.
