Lono v. Yousty

Antiquated.  Old.  Boring.  Rehash. 16-bit.  Half-Baked.

Ur Mr Gay.

These are the words that come to mind when I think about Super Mario Galaxy. The umpteenth game about a plumber and his color coordinated brother, fighting to save a princess. Have we seen this before?

Spin Control 3: The End of the Single Player?

Rothbart vs. Lono

Rothbart: Great single player games are a dying breed…and I’m pissed!

If you look at the big releases as of late, you might notice more and more of them seem to be pushing (or focusing entirely) on the multiplayer aspect; be it online multiplayer on the 360 or local multiplayer on the Wii. Even some of the highest profile PS3 games that have been single player have been released with disclaimers along the lines of “We wanted to focus first and foremost on the single player in this game, we’ll pursue multiplayer in our next title”. So I ask, why?! Why should releasing a top-notch single player game need any form of disclaimer or apology? There were several high profile games this year that were single player only such as BioShock, Ratchet & Clank Future, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and Assassin’s Creed, just to name a few. One of the key features I love about these single player experiences is that I know I’m absolutely never going to run into smack talking 12 year-olds ruining any immersion or escape the game might bring to my otherwise reality-based life.

Spin Control #2: Wright is Right; Lono is Wrongo.

Volkov vs. Lono

SourceThe Guardian

Way back in the dog days of summer, Lono claimed he knew the true meaning of next-gen. What he didn’t know, was that he made a complete ass of himself. You see, the gaming god, Will Wright, creator of some of the most innovative and best-selling titles of the past two decades (read: not Halo), has declared Wii to be supreme:

willwrightatsxsw.jpgThe only next gen system I’ve seen is the Wii – the PS3 and the Xbox 360 feel like better versions of the last, but pretty much the same game with incremental improvement. But the Wii feels like a major jump – not that the graphics are more powerful, but that it hits a completely different demographic. In some sense I see the Wii as the most significant thing that’s happened, at least on the console side, in quite a while.

OUCH! BURRNNNNNNN! You feel that Lono? Do you feel the cold, harsh reality of incorrectness? You may be the favorite among our forum members (cheater), but you’ve got nothing on someone who wins BAFTA awards, plus is designing a game that crafts evolution from the ground up. We might as well just delete your article and pretend you never wrote it. Also, we should discredit anything else you’ve wrote since then. They are wrong by association.

But wait, there’s more! (more…)

Spin Control #1: Xbox Sales Dominance Will Continue?

October 23rd, 2007 · 6 Comments

spyvspy.JPG

This is a new weekly feature that we’re doing here at Sarcastic Gamer.  Each week, either Rothbart or I will have “Spin Control” on a particular issue.  This means that each week, we’ll argue about something gaming related, but the author with “Spin Control” will get the last word and then the sides will flip for the next week.

This week I, Lono, have Spin Control.  Got it?  Good.  Let’s get started.
