I was one of the special people picked to take part in the Tom Clancy’s EndWar Beta. Over the week and all this weekend, I’ve spent a ton of time with it. I’ve made a ton of notes on the invite-only multiplayer beta of one of the most highly anticipated console RTS games of the season….
As part of accepting the entry code to the EndWar beta, I was forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement by Ubisoft’s lawyers. In keeping with that agreement, I sent my first draft of this little shocker of an article to Ubisoft’s fleet of lawyers to see if they were okay with my revelations. They made a few alterations, but overall, I was surprised at how much I got away with, to share with the Sarcastic gamer faithful…
When it comes to my generation and the one before it (say 26 ala PMPB to 39 ala Grandpa Rothbart), the breadth of our video game experience is vast. Just about all of us can remember owning the original Nintendo console. Some (like myself) can even look all the way back to the Atari 7800 and Commodore 64 with more than a little nostalgia.
I’m a huge fan of going back and playing classic titles. Not lame ports, or rehashes, but the real games, on the setup they were intended to be played on. So what I like to do when I play these old games is to get my friends together about once a month and attempt to “out do” each other by pulling out some of the oldest, forgotten, but still great video games ever made.
Check out which three uber ancient games we pulled out of moth balls after the jump! (more…)
It’s been a dry time for us demo fanatics on Xbox Live. Sega felt compelled to quench our thirst yesterday with a demo for Universe at War: Earth Assault. This is the latest attempt at a PC RTS game on the console. Did they succeed? In a way.
Just like monkeys creating tools to perform tasks, it’s just not the same as the real thing. Join me after the jump.
Consoles are the kingpins of gaming right now, no question about it. They dominate in every genre except MMO and RTS titles. Does that stop developers from trying to bring the last two bastions of the PC market over to console? Hell no! RTS titles have been making shameful appearances here and there on the consoles lately, with less than stellar results. Case in point, the Xbox 360 version of Supreme Commander, which has to be one of the stupidest ideas ever. Even dumber than the new Knight Rider TV show. Yeah, I went there.
I’m gonna tell you all about this trainwreck and how it’s gimped for the 360, after the jump! (more…)
