It’sNotAReview: TrackMania DS

November 19th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’m utterly lost for words. The DS has a great racing game that isn’t Mario Kart. You might not have heard of it in Console Land, but TrackMania has gone down a storm in times past in PC Land, even going so far as to set a world record. The thing is, transferring a racing game of such massive (online) ambitions to an underpowered handheld with less (online) ambitions would be an extraordinarily tricky task.

The thing is, Glasgow-based Firebrand Games (where I live, wheee!) have pulled the same tricks they pulled with the DS edition of Race Driver and have somehow, magically, made a truly enjoyable piece of arcade driving for Nintendo’s handheld.

If that’s enough of a verdict for you to go and buy it, then that’s fine. The rest of you can read my NonReview after the jump.

ItsNotAReview: Zombie Uprising!

October 22nd, 2008 · 5 Comments

Zombie Uprising may just be the sleeper hit of the year.  It’s got zombies, chainsaws and zombies getting chainsawed.  It rocks. The only problem? You won’t find it on any store shelf. You won’t find it on PSN or Xbox Live. You can’t download it from Steam.

Zombie killin’ goodness, after the jump.

Hail to the king, baby.  (more…)

ItsNotAReview: Linger In Shadows

October 13th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I’d love to say that this Non-Review is the usual sort of Non-Review where it’s really a nicely-written analysis of a game and I say what I like and don’t like about the game. In the case of Linger In Shadows, the new piece of, uh, software on the PlayStation Store, this really isn’t a review of a game, because there is no game to review.

Non-Review after the break.

ItsNotAReview- The Witcher: Enchanced Edition

October 9th, 2008 · 2 Comments

When most gamers think of single-player action RPGs, there is a very short list that comes to mind. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is easily at the top of the list, followed by games like Mass Effect and Kingdom Hearts. Well, there may be a new game to put towards the top of that list, The Witcher from CD Projeckt Red. If you have a decent PC, the new and improved Witcher could be more than enough to hold you over until games like Fallout 3 hit later this month.

I managed to snag a copy of the Enhanced Edition that was released mid-September for a Sarcastic Gamer ItsNotAReview. All of the enhanced goodness, with whores, after the jump!

Megaman 9, frustration Nirvana?

October 2nd, 2008 · 3 Comments

There are very few video games that have been around since “the beginning.” Yes, I know that the NES wasn’t technically the beginning, but that line sounded dramatic and I wanted to open with it. Wanna fight about it?

Megaman is one of those franchises that has been around for decades, and even though it has evolved with the technology around it, many gamers feel that the original 8-bit iterations were the bee’s knees. Well, someone at Capcom thought the same thing, and as you all know, Megaman 9 is a complete throwback to the original two Megaman games that released on the NES in 1987 and 1989.

Find out if this nostaligic gem is worth your 800 Microsoft Points after the jump.

The Last Guy..and the last review of it, probably

September 2nd, 2008 · 4 Comments

I’m not one for being on time with game reviews. My LEGO Indiana Jones review was about a month late (along with Soulcalibur IV’s) so as you can guess my timing is hardly impeccable. Still, might as well crack on with the newest review and not dilly-dally.

Today’s review is of PSN collect-em-up-with-an-edge The Last Guy. And it’s probably the last one to be done of the game too, such is the promptness of my timing, but let’s move on swiftly.

The review, after the jump.

Rothbart’s Rave: SumoSac Sultan Review

August 28th, 2008 · 7 Comments

You might be tempted to think from the title of this post that you don’t need to read on. I was sent a SumoSac Sultan chair for review and I love it, yadda yadda yadda. If you stop reading now, you’re going to miss some pretty important (and funny) stuff. As you probably know if you’re a regular to the site, SumoLounge.com has been a valued sponsor to SarcasticGamer.com for a while now and the Red Show crew were all sent SumoSac Omni chairs to evaluate. They all loved their chairs. The thing you probably don’t realize is that these things are shipped in an almost vacuum-packed state. Once you open the box, it’s never going back in. So the reviewers get to keep the chairs, regardless of the review score. I had quite a few problems with my SumoSac Sultan. Keep reading after the jump to learn why…

The Late, Late Review: Soulcalibur IV (PS3)

August 25th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Yes, so it’s a little bit late. SoulCalibur IV has been out for almost a month now and yet here comes silly ole Sarcastic Gamer with a review way too late. Not our fault though. If you have any beef with the timing of this review, please take it up with the United States Postal Service, who you can get in contact with here.

However, if you’re not going to complain, or cry, or anything like that (or if you couldn’t care less, which I’m guessing will apply to pretty much all of you) you can head on into the late, late SoulCalibur IV review via the link just under this text right here.

Artsy-Fartsy PixelJunk Eden demo impressions

July 28th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Fresh from the American PlayStation Store comes a whole heap of fancy updates. As well as being treated to a sale dropping PAIN, PixelJunk Monsters and three other downloadable games to the low, low price of $4.99 each, Siren: Blood Curse makes it appearance, with Europe astonishingly receiving the game at the same time (but not the demo, meaning curious European gamers will have to spend at least 7 quid to find out what it’s like, thanks SCEE) as well as the almost typical Guitar Hero and Rock Band song packs. Also thrown in was a demo of Elefunk, which is rubbish, and PixelJunk Eden, the third game from the small Japanese development studio Q-Games.

Hit the jump for my Eden impressions.

Review - Buzz!: Quiz TV

July 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Nintendo, everybody probably thinks, are champions and creators of the casual gaming market. After all, they created the DS and the Wii, currently the most popular games consoles in the world, and these consoles offer up heaps of games for everybody. While I can admit that they have the market cornered, the creation of the market for ‘games for non-gamers’ should really be attributed to Sony.

Before we had games such as Brain Training on the DS (with a Western release in 2006) or the huge range of superb family-oriented games on the Wii, Sony was trying to kick start a new genre of games designed for those who don’t really enjoy picking up a joypad; these included SingStar in 2004 and Buzz! The Music Quiz in 2005.

Despite losing the majority of the market to Nintendo, they’re gunning to try and claim some of this back with the new version of their quiz franchise Buzz! for the PS3. My review begins after the jump!

Review: LEGO Indiana Jones (PS3)

July 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments

Yes, I realize LEGO Indiana Jones isn’t as swift to be written as my MGS4 review was, but then again I didn’t pick this game up a day before worldwide release. However, I’ve got to say, right away, in all seriousness, with as much use of punctuation as possible, that this is the best game you could ever buy. If it were in a sale. A really good sale. A really good sale where you also had a gift card to use. And there was nothing else in the store.

Minor exaggerations to be sure, but it’s all good, as I shall explain in this little piece on LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures. I’d make some kind of whip reference but the chances are I’d make it sound hugely inappropriate, so forget that: onwards!
