Do you like guns? How do you feel about chainsaws? Dual stabby blades do anything for you? How about the Venture Brothers cartoon? Still with me? Now roll all that up and slap that into a 2D Double Dragon style side scroll fighter, and you’ve got Shank, the latest offering from Klei Entertainment.
PAX Midwest has been a huge blast so far. It’s great to get to play the games again and hang out with the rest of the staff. What? I’m part of the staff now! Don’t be hating!
Where was I? Oh yeah. Here we are at another gaming convention. It only seems like yesterday that I was trudging around PAX, preventing Doc from collapsing from starvation. Now that I am an established staff member, I was excited to cover some real fun gaming news. The guys told me that Microsoft had something special, and being where I’m from, it’d be perfect for me to report on it. More info after the jump!
Whilst the higher-ups of the SGC have actually got to attend PAX Midwest ‘09, as usual me and the rest of the European writing staff get to participate by watching them have fun on an itty-bitty press webcast. Not that we’re bitter or anything. Just saying. At a ridiculous time of the morning GMT, I watched the press only live-from-Topeka broadcast of Legacy Interactive’s upcoming flagship title Murder She Wrote. Find out whodunnit over the jump… (more…)
One of the big announcements out here in freakin’ the middle of nowhere was at the Sony booth. While they still don’t have a quirky name for their awkward doofus looking“ball-and-stick-ice-cream-cone” motion controller that was revealed at E3 this year, they listed the games that will come out for their launch, as well as those games compatible with their new dipsh*t wavy-wavy stick peripheral.
From left to right: Vlad Ceraldi (Co-founder), Jody McLain (Director of Marketing), Chris Mitchell (Designer & Writer), Glen Hamilton, (Producer), Gregann Dunn (Director of Business Development) and Hamish Miller (Producer)! FULL HOUSE!
When you hear the words “death” and “spank” in close proximity, you wouldn’t think to slap the two together. You certainly don’t think of the word “Deathspank”, because what kind of crazy name is that for anyone to name anything? (more…)
Doc and I were running around looking for a restroom and bumped into the guys from Bioware. As you can see by the ending, we made a beeline for the restroom. It’s a no frills interview… Now that we’ve relieved ourselves I’d really like to do that interview again. Oh well.

Looking for a little Diablo style lovin’, but can’t stand the idea of waiting around until 2023 or whenever Blizzard gets Diablo 3 out to us? (more…)
Mikey Neumann on right, Steve Gibson, VP of marketing on the left.
One of the biggest interviews I had while I was there was with the creative director for Gearbox Software, Mikey Neumann. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and seeing as the guy was signing autographs in the Borderlands booth, I was a little hesitant and nervous on what to expect.
Turns out the guy is as casual and laid back as you can get. While I was editing the audio, I could just hear that both of us were having a great time discussing his project. It felt more like I was talking to an old college roommate, as opposed to a big-wig muckity-muck in charge of creating the Borderlands world for a multi-million dollar game studio.
Jim Ferris (left) and Tom French (right). No, Jim is not high, and yes, that IS Tom's real hair.
Take the open world environment of Grand Theft Auto 4, take a pinch of Red Faction: Guerrilla insurgent style gameplay, toss in a half of cup of Sin City black-and-white-with-splash-of-color art direction, two and a half cups of awesome and a metric ton of dead Nazis, and you’ve got a good taste of The Saboteur, a brilliant third-person shooter inspired by a true story from World War 2.
You know ‘em, you love ‘em, you cringe at ‘em. It’s the cosplayers! Here’s a slideshow of some of the best and worst of show that I was able to catch. Can you spot the two that were dressed in their regular clothes, and the mother who needs to have child protective services called on her? The answers might surprise you!
