Chrono Trigger launches November 25

August 19th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Do you like triggers? “Yes, though not the type of triggers on real guns or anything else that could be remotely dangerous,” the entire Sarcastic Gamer reader base chants back. Do you like chrono, or, more specifically, chronological ordering? ‘Hell yeah, it’s totally rad!’ the cacophony of voices reply.

Well I have got the perfect news for you. Myself and the SG Staff team have been hard at work over the past 6 months creating a complete history of triggers that have featured on game controllers, it’s 500 pages, but-

What? What do you mean that’s not what this post is about? Oh really? The history of triggers was a joke, and I was the only person who actually made it? You burnt it? But I put my best ribbon on it. Ok ok, fine, just don’t make me change the intro…

Contrary to earlier sentences, I have exciting news to report: Chrono Trigger is gonna be released on November 25, 2008.

All the delicious details can be found after the pole vault, or alternatively, if you’re really good, you could just jump it.

A Week on the Road: a Gaming Diary - Day 2

August 5th, 2008 · 7 Comments

Day two of my trip started fairly early. 12:01am to be precise, and obviously I hadn’t yet been to sleep. Having broken my Gmail account while tinkering with filters, I resigned myself to a late night. Of course, fixing things that break is all part of tinkering so I happily set about trying to find the cause of the problem.

Things only got worse from there.

chinatown online

If you mosey on down to the GTA: Chinatown Wars official site you’ll notice that a Nintendo Wi-Fi connection logo is proudly displayed at the bottom of the page. Exciting no? No, it isn’t, but let’s have a closer look anyway.

Wi-fi?  WTF?

GTA On The DS Rated AO

July 18th, 2008 · 13 Comments

I think I can speak for everyone when I say I didn’t see this coming at E3. Not only was GTA coming to the Nintendo DS a complete surprise, but the news realeased this morning that the game wouldn’t bother with its usual M rating and will be jumping straight to the ESRB’s highest rating of AO (Adults Only) has left the gaming media speechless. Take a look at the press release (and cover art) right after the jump. (more…)

E3 2008 Nintendo Conference Roundup

July 15th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Sad smiley face. Nintendo had the chance to blow our mind with some genuinely interesting developments for the Wii but for the past hour all they’ve done is reveal disappointment upon disappointment.

Hit the jump for everything the hour-long presentation had to offer..not that it was much.

5 cheap Nintendo games that you should buy

July 10th, 2008 · 6 Comments

nintendo-is-awesome

Yes it’s true, this is an article which features a DS game and four Wii games. That’s right, a DS game on Sarcastic Gamer. Honest.

My internet was down over the weekend and as someone who spends a worrying percentage of their life on the internet, I had nothing to do and was incredibly bored. So, in true gamer style, I decided to buy 1 single player game to keep me busy…

…I ended up buying 5 games: 4 Wii games and 1 DS game and, after spending a decent amount of time with all of them, I’m ready to give you my impressions.

Time for a bit of reverse psychology: don’t hit the jump and don’t read the article.

Review: LEGO Indiana Jones (PS3)

July 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments

Yes, I realize LEGO Indiana Jones isn’t as swift to be written as my MGS4 review was, but then again I didn’t pick this game up a day before worldwide release. However, I’ve got to say, right away, in all seriousness, with as much use of punctuation as possible, that this is the best game you could ever buy. If it were in a sale. A really good sale. A really good sale where you also had a gift card to use. And there was nothing else in the store.

Minor exaggerations to be sure, but it’s all good, as I shall explain in this little piece on LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures. I’d make some kind of whip reference but the chances are I’d make it sound hugely inappropriate, so forget that: onwards!

Pokemon as an allegory for Nintendo?

June 3rd, 2008 · 16 Comments

When you think of Pokemon, I bet you either think of a really kiddy RPG for handhelds, or a really hardcore kiddy RPG for handhelds. Now, I know that Pokemon is more than just a kids’ game. Hell, I’ve spent hours of my life even recently hunting for those little buggers. Considering how it’s been marketed over the past decade, I’d bet that most people can’t tell the difference.

The way I see it, the Pokemon franchise embodies Nintendo perfectly. There is plenty of room to cater to the most hardcore of gamers and give them exactly what they want, but instead they choose to continue with more of the same, only with minute changes here and there.

Find out how I came to this conclusion after the jump.

How To Stop Smoking (An Idiot’s Guide)

May 29th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Ubisoft has announced they are teaming with Allen Carr to bring Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking to a Nintendo DS near you. Yes, you read that right… replace that cigarette in your hand with a Nintendo DS in one hand and a stylus in the other and you’re halfway to quitting (and seriously, those things reek when set ablaze!) I don’t expect this move will go unanswered from the opposing team. Those tobacco moguls have a TON of money to blow on public image. They’ll probably spin this whole thing into some stylish grass-roots campaign of defiance. (more…)

It’s Monday… again, and you only get one chance to start the week off the right way. No, not coffee and an Egg McMuffin. In a gamer’s world, there’s nothing better than looking at the games coming out this week.

Here are your titles for this week, with just a pinch of sarcasm.

After-the-Fact-Reviews: Front Mission for the Nintendo DS

April 10th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Front Mission for the DS is a tactics-style RPG in the form of giant-robots-blowing-the-crap-out-of-stuff. This title is also one of “those” damned games from an acclaimed Japanese clusterf… I mean series, and as usual with those types of damned games, actually describing the title requires giving a little bit of background on the clust… series first. I’ll lay out the general rundown for those who have never played a Front Mission game before addressing those who have, and I warn you that it’s a little complicated. You may need to take notes.
