I think I can speak for everyone when I say I didn’t see this coming at E3. Not only was GTA coming to the Nintendo DS a complete surprise, but the news realeased this morning that the game wouldn’t bother with its usual M rating and will be jumping straight to the ESRB’s highest rating of AO (Adults Only) has left the gaming media speechless. Take a look at the press release (and cover art) right after the jump. (more…)

At least Miyamoto still gives a damn
July 17th, 2008 · 9 Comments

I, like many people, was extremely disappointed with Nintendo’s E3 media briefing. The company promised a game (that’s right, just one) that would keep hardcore gamers occupied this holiday season. That game? “Animal Crossing: City Folk.” Sorry Reggie, I think I will pass.
Aside from “Animal Crossing,” Nintendo introduced “Wii Sports Resort,” “Wii Music,” “Shaun White Snowboarding” and a bunch of other crap I couldn’t care less about. So where is the hardcore game that I should be excited about? It certainly didn’t show up at the press conference.
Well, it took a few additional days, but Shigeru Miyamoto was kind enough to reveal a game that many Nintendo fans have been clamoring for. (more…)

E3 2008 Nintendo Conference Roundup
July 15th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Sad smiley face. Nintendo had the chance to blow our mind with some genuinely interesting developments for the Wii but for the past hour all they’ve done is reveal disappointment upon disappointment.
Hit the jump for everything the hour-long presentation had to offer..not that it was much.

5 cheap Nintendo games that you should buy
July 10th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Yes it’s true, this is an article which features a DS game and four Wii games. That’s right, a DS game on Sarcastic Gamer. Honest.
My internet was down over the weekend and as someone who spends a worrying percentage of their life on the internet, I had nothing to do and was incredibly bored. So, in true gamer style, I decided to buy 1 single player game to keep me busy…
…I ended up buying 5 games: 4 Wii games and 1 DS game and, after spending a decent amount of time with all of them, I’m ready to give you my impressions.
Time for a bit of reverse psychology: don’t hit the jump and don’t read the article.

Review: LEGO Indiana Jones (PS3)
July 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments

Yes, I realize LEGO Indiana Jones isn’t as swift to be written as my MGS4 review was, but then again I didn’t pick this game up a day before worldwide release. However, I’ve got to say, right away, in all seriousness, with as much use of punctuation as possible, that this is the best game you could ever buy. If it were in a sale. A really good sale. A really good sale where you also had a gift card to use. And there was nothing else in the store.
Minor exaggerations to be sure, but it’s all good, as I shall explain in this little piece on LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures. I’d make some kind of whip reference but the chances are I’d make it sound hugely inappropriate, so forget that: onwards!

Ditch your Virtual Console, for a real one?
June 30th, 2008 · 11 Comments

I am fed up with Nintendo of America’s lackluster Virtual Console support. Since the beginning of January, the number of titles released each week has been severely reduced. Gamers used to be able to look forward to three games a week. Now we are lucky to get two.
In addition, some of Nintendo’s most popular consoles have been somewhat neglected. For instance, there are only 32 Super Nintendo games and 14 N64 titles currently available on the virtual download service. By comparison, 49 TurboGrafx-16 games have been released.
I am not disparaging those 49 titles, but I find it odd that Nintendo isn’t showing more support for its own consoles. The last SNES game released for the service was Super R-Type on March 17. Since the beginning of January, only four N64 games (1080 Snowboarding, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Cruis’n USA and Pokemon Puzzle League) have been added to the VC’s catalog.
The Wii was supposed to be my SNES. The technology through which I could experience all of the great games I missed more than a decade ago.
The SNES is considered by many to be the greatest console of all time. So, why isn’t Nintendo releasing more SNES games through the VC?
Rather than continue to complain about the problem, I decided to do something about it. (more…)

Nonfiction: Mega Man 9 is a reality
June 27th, 2008 · 10 Comments

I might be fresh out of college, but I am old enough to remember the days when Mega Man was a staple of the videogame industry. Mega Man 2 and 3 for the NES rank among my favorite games of all time. I personally favor number three, but I can’t argue against the second installment.
To this day, I still pull out my NES to play the first five Mega Man games. Each title holds a special place in my heart, even if the latter installments are inferior to their predecessors.
So why all of this talk about Mega Man? The answer lies beyond the jump. (more…)

Fischer acknowledges Wii storage problem
June 18th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Laurent Fischer is flapping his gums again. Only this time, the managing director of Nintendo Europe isn’t taking shots at consumers.
Fischer, the mouthpiece behind the “geeks and otaku” comment, seems to be taking the concerns of Wii owners seriously. Or, so he says.

Wii Fit Brits are breaking the bank
June 17th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Wii Fit has been on a tear lately. Not only is the game selling like crazy, but it is garnering a significant amount of attention from the media.
In May, a story hit the Internet about a young girl who had become upset after Wii Fit classified her as overweight. The situation caused the girl’s mother, and even some healthcare experts, to speak out against the game and its scale-like peripheral.
Some additional concerns were raised, but since that initial story, Nintendo has been able to avoid negative press coverage.
That is until now. The ridiculous details are located after the jump. (more…)
The Wii Fat parody song
June 10th, 2008 · 32 Comments

Last year, we toyed with Nintendo’s trailer, questioning whether something like Wii Fit would really provide any sort of benefit or fun. Today, we’re proud to give closure to those still waiting for an answer to the question: “Does Wii Fit work?”
Starring “Dave” as the fat guy, the song was written and performed by Jeromy “Doc” Adams. the video credits go to our good buddy M-Freakin-J, who also produced videos for “How You Killed Your Brand” and “Hey Mr. Thompson“.
Support for this video came from our friends at TitanStrike.com, where gamers come to meet and compete.
The song parodies “Big Yellow Taxi” as performed by The Counting Crows and Vanessa Carlton. The original song was written by Joni Mitchell.
Please feel to embed this song on your site, and thanks, as always, for the Diggs.
The T-shirts worn in this video are available for 19.99 (plus S&H) from our store. http://sarcasticgamer.com/store.
Would you like to put the song onto your iPod or mobile device? Subscribe to the free Humpday Update Podcast, and get it FREE starting this Wednesday.
