Congratulations GTR. Defeats SG 3-2

April 26th, 2008 · 54 Comments

In what can only be described as one of the closest matches of its kind, Gamertag Radio pulled out a win over Sarcastic Gamer, winning 3 games out of 5 to clinch the title in this highly anticipated matchup.  The event was streamed live over Mogulus with Doc acting as cameraman, and Godfree providing his own special brand of play by play.

While tensions ran high as the match concluded, on behalf of the entire Sarcastic Gamer Community, I’d like to congratulate both teams on a job well done.

As agreed upon prior to the match, Sarcastic Gamer will change its name for one week to Sarcastic Gamertag Radio.  It’s a tough pill to swallow, but a bet is a bet, and Gamertag Radio won fair and square.

Word of a rematch is already permeating the community, mostly on the SG side.  We’ll keep you updated as details are made available.

Thanks to everyone who came and watched the match.  It was a hell of a game.

Hello. It’s 6AM, and I haven’t gone to bed yet. But shhh…keep this on the down-low. Lono would castrate me quicker than a penis-hating lumberjack, if he saw an article on the front page that he didn’t get to chop to pieces first.

Here are three things I’m pondering which are keeping me awake: (more…)

Sarcastic Gamer fires back at GTR… with a game! Play it here!

April 15th, 2008 · 12 Comments

The Ploogle, a long time member of the Sarcastic Gamer community was so taken aback by Gamertag Radio’s endless onslaught of aggressive behavior, that he went into development of his own video game. Design, beta testing, and implementation claimed more than 45 minutes of Ploggle’s time, but at the end of the day we have one of the most prolific video games ever made. With high end graphics “borrowed” from one of MightyMutt’s comics, Ploogle may have just created the “Pong Killer”

Introducing the SG vs GTR “Put the grenade in Godfree’s mouth game.”

Oh and in case you find yourself wondering when it ends, it doesn’t. Just like the endless ass kicking that GTR is going to get from Sarcastic Gamer in Call of Duty 4.

Great work Ploogle. Take that GTR. You may have Anjo Banjo in the art department but we have a community FULL of idle nerds waiting to take you down. Bring it!

Gamertag Radio fans losing confidence in their team

April 14th, 2008 · 15 Comments

As I was reading the comments over at GTR today, two words kept coming to mind. Sinking Ship. The smack talk out of the world-famous gaming community is now carefully balanced with caution. Maybe they now know just exactly what they’ve gotten themselves into. (more…)

Lamertag Radio crosses the line. Will Die Brutally.

April 11th, 2008 · 31 Comments

What was supposed to be an afternoon match in the coming weeks, between the GTR community and the SG community, is now officially a war. This morning, Anjo Banjo from GTR posted her latest offensive and inflammatory “masterpiece” depicting our “Red M&M” laying dead in a pool of his own blood. Sadly, the words on the picture were written in some sort of ancient script for which I have yet to find a translator. Apparently, they had some sort of problem with our friendly offer to assist them with their spelling.

Two things are for certain.

  1. There will be a war… Soon.
  2. One website will have to change its name for a week.

The details have to be worked out. We’ll try and get Godfree and/or JVB on the Humpday Update, if they can be civil long enough to work out the details of this Call of Duty 4, fight to the pain.

It’s Official: Can of Whoop-ass is open

April 10th, 2008 · 40 Comments

Godfree and his crew just had to keep escalating things. The CoD4 showdown is on, and the public humiliation will happen via video and live-blogging. Gamertag Radio? Seems like the name is missing something…. How about this… If our team beats yours, you have to change the name of your website to Sarcastic Gamer-tag Radio and put up our “Red M&M” on your site for a week. If we lose, which we won’t, we’ll change our name to the same thing. I’m calling you out right here and right now. Oh and JVB? You’re not getting out of this too easily. MightyMutt has composed a pretty accurate preview of how things are going to go down, in my opinion…. after the jump. (more…)

The Hypocrisy of GameDaily.

September 5th, 2007 · No Comments

Commentary by Lono

SOURCE: GameDaily; Gamertagradio.com

Now that we’ve joined the Gamercast Network, I had a chance over the last couple of days to sample podcasts from our friends within the GCN. Today I downloaded and listened to Gamertag Radio Episode #110. While this episode came out a few weeks ago, and I’m admittedly extremely late to the party, as Doc usually says, better late than never.

While listening, Godfree of GTR discussed an article that Kyle Orland wrote for GameDaily.com and later interviewed Kyle in their podcast. Orland’s article entitled Expo Expository was released on 7/19/07, which served to “give out awards for some notable press-related moments,” but he really means that he’s gonna rip a few people. One of the targets of the article is Gamertag Radio for its sponsorship by EA at E3.

For those who may not be aware, Godfree was able to obtain sposorship from EA so that he could bring along two other staffers from Gamertag Radio to E3 to cover the event. While I don’t know the specifics, it appears that they received room and board along with plane tickets to attend E3. EA also posted their logo on their main page advertising that Gamertag Radio would be covering E3 on behalf of EA. Godfree’s thoughts on the sponsorship can be viewed here.Without talking to the Gamertag guys, Orland wrote a piece ripping Gamertag Radio and basically calling them “sellouts,” which as you probably know is one of the worst things you can say about an indie site such as GTR. Specifically Orland wrote, in part:

“On the other hand, having an entire show’s worth of coverage sponsored by one company does at least create the appearance of a conflict of interest. EA.com’s claim that you can “get all the EA news coming out of E3 courtesy of GamerTag Radio” doesn’t exactly help matters. While Godfree insists that “there will be no biased reviews in EA’s favor because of this sponsorship,” the site’s E3 landing page currently features five EA-published games (Skate, Madden NFL 08, Crysis, Rock Band and Tiger Woods PGA Tour) and only three from all other publishers combined. Not that these games don’t deserve coverage, or wouldn’t have the same placement without the sponsorship, but the pairing of heavy EA coverage with a big EA logo atop the page might give some readers pause.”

While crap like this would have sent yours truly over the edge, Godfree was nice enough to interview Orland on GTR about the hatchet job in Ep. 110. To me, Orland came off as a smug asshat that responded condescendingly to the answers given by Godfree and Feelz. You see, some of you readers may not know this, but I’m an attorney by day, and kick ass blogger by night. As an attorney you can smell a bs question a mile away becuase as an attorney, you’re taught to ask bs questions in the sneakiest of ways.

One way is to frame a question so that it appears as innocuous as possible, while still being loaded at the same time. Your objective is to ask a question to which either answer is good for you. A no-lose type of question. A typical example is a question like, “Have you beaten your wife lately?” There is no good answer to this question. If you say no, you imply you’re a wife beater, just not a recent wife beater. If you say yes, then you admit that you are a piece of shite wife beater. Bringing it back to the GTR interview, around the 24 minute mark Orland asked the GTR guys something to the effect of, “So were there a lot of games that you only covered because EA paid you?” This is a gawd damned loaded question and Orland fraking new it. While Godfree kept his cool and politely responded, any answer to that question other than, “that was a stupid fucking loaded question, asshole.” would have been the wrong answer and Orland knew it, which is why he asked it in the first place.

Godfree and Feelz expanded on their answer and explained that they had a chance to see games that they normally wouldn’t, including games for the DS and Wii. In response, Orland said, “do you think your audience is interested in that, though?” In that question, he’s implying that because GTR is a mostly Xbox-centric podcast, any Wii or DS game discussed on the show, would be because EA paid them. Godfree answered by basically saying that he never holds back if he doesn’t like a game and Orland responded, “Yeah, I’ve heard some of your stuff, you tell it like it is.” Really, asshat? If you thought that, why write the story that basically called them out as sellouts? At this point, Orland is basically patronizing them and that pisses me off.

Later, around the 28:42 mark, Feelz restated that he wouldn’t be biased because of the sponsorship, Orland said, “was it clear to your listeners that you were only covering DS games because you were being paid by EA to do so.” Again with the loaded question. SEE Lono’s response above. Jackass.

Orland eventually acheived the coup de grace in the interview around the 30:52 mark. It’s at this point when he basically called GTR a corporate mouthpiece because of the EA sponsorship and then in the same sentence said smugly, “but I don’t think its happened yet because of the coverage of a few DS games.”

Orland again bashed the guys because they had the audacity to have a GTR link on the EA site, which fiendishly caused an increase amount of traffic on the GTR site. Oh Noes! Of course, Orland acknowleged that he didn’t know that GTR didn’t advertise on their home page. Way to do your homework before writing your piece of crap article Orland!

It just goes on from there. I encourage you to listen to the podcast yourself and form your own opinion.

My opinion? I know that Godfree doesn’t need me to defend him. I know that GTR didn’t and wouldn’t sell out for airfare and a hotel stay. On the other hand, it really pisses me off to see bigger, commercial sites like GamesDaily taking pot shots at an indie site like GTR. Orland knew exactly what he was doing. Calling an indie site a sellout, or even intimating that they sold out, is probably the worst thing you could accuse and indie site of. For Orland to call any site a sellout would be like the pot calling the kettle black.

GTR selling out to EA is ridiculous. GTR is “the” name in independent podcasting. Godfree’s been doing this for like seven years and he hasn’t made a dime off of the industry. It’s like the commercial sites see Godfree’s success and just when he gets a little crum from EA, they pound him for it. While Godfree works his regular job to pay the bills and then his second job for GTR for free, the bigger sites “journalists” have expense accounts and get paid to cover video games. To call him out over airfare is bullshit.

Then this guy went on Godfree’s show and kissed Godfree’s ass and smugly asked loaded questions and stated numerous times that GTR was paid by EA to cover E3. Isn’t it just like a larger website to shit all over an indie? So typical. Give me a break, like GameDaily is the bastion of pure and unbiased journalism? Orland you smug piece of crap, Godfree is too nice to say this to you, but you are a fucking hypocritical asshole. Orland if you’re reading this, click here for my two cents.

Oh yeah, I read your “ apology” and that sucks too. Take your “complaints” and shove them up GameDaily.com’s ass.
