IGN’s Tal Blevins wrote a well-thought-out editorial about how E3 was a shadow of its former self and that something had to be done soon, to save it. He seems to feel that, based on his 15 years of attending every E3 in history, that the summit has lost its way, and its excitement. He’s clamoring for pretty pictures and booth babes. He lays out a plan to save E3.
So you can listen to Tal, the most E3′d man in gaming journalism, and accept that E3 is dead, or you can take it from me, a gaming blogger/regular guy who just attended his first E3 ever… and loved it.
I spent only 10 minutes with Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway at E3, hardly enough time to fully evaluate the game, but that doesn’t stop me from passing judgment on its hellacious, horrible, broken, annoying, impossible, and out-of-place control scheme for the PS3. Excruciating details, post-jump.
This time last year, Sarcastic Gamer proclaimed media ass kissers as 2007’s Best of E3 for their ridiculous fawning over Reggie Fils-Aime and Nintendo’s E3 press conference. This year, Sarcastic Gamer has taken a step back, looked at everything that’s offered, from Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, Fable 2, and all of the other number 2 games out there, watched all of the press conferences, and viewed all of the trailers to come up with:
Good morrow fine Sirs and Madams. It has come to my attention that you may well be feeling a certain qualmness with regards to Mirror’s Edge nausea inducing capabilities, but rest assured, the fine folks over at DICE have found a veritable bouquet of solutions that are positively bursting with ingenuity and charisma that aspire to resolving the conundrums at hand in a swift and mannered fashion.
I, like many people, was extremely disappointed with Nintendo’s E3 media briefing. The company promised a game (that’s right, just one) that would keep hardcore gamers occupied this holiday season. That game? “Animal Crossing: City Folk.” Sorry Reggie, I think I will pass.
Aside from “Animal Crossing,” Nintendo introduced “Wii Sports Resort,” “Wii Music,” “Shaun White Snowboarding” and a bunch of other crap I couldn’t care less about. So where is the hardcore game that I should be excited about? It certainly didn’t show up at the press conference.
Well, it took a few additional days, but Shigeru Miyamoto was kind enough to reveal a game that many Nintendo fans have been clamoring for. (more…)
Out of all the games scheduled to be hoisted up for praise at this years E3, only one had me twitching for more details. That game, of course, is Little Big Planet. You know, that game I brazenly said would be the PS3’s game of the year. With some stellar new gameplay videos and some great stage demo’s, I feel pretty justified in my GOTY declaration.

After playing Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, which both took suckatude to previously unimaginable heights, what little faith I had in movie tie-in games died. You push a game to be released at the same time as a movie and you get garbage. Which is why the recent announcement by developer GRIN is so special. Rather than give us yet another game that only a blind mother could love, GRIN is working on a Wanted movie tie-in game that, obviously, will NOT be limited by a film release window. Considering how wicked the comic book and the film were (storyline and acting notwithstanding), I would definitely be interested in this title.

Note: Only Doc and Dave are actually at E3, so these impressions are based of Gamespot’s E3 Live show. The show features a live video demo played by the developer of the game, questions posed to the developer and discussion of the game, so even though I’m not in LA, these impressions are pretty well informed.
Sonic Unleashed is a new 3D Sonic game coming to the PS2, PS3, Wii and 360 this November. I’m sure you’d love to read my impressions of the game so Sir/Madam if you’d just step this way…
At a LittleBigPlanet press conference, Alex Evans from Media Molecule revealed that the loveable Stephen Fry (he didn’t say lovable) will be narrating Sack Boy’s debut title. For those of you who don’t know, Stephen Fry is an English, writer, actor, novelist and television presenter who’s voice you may recognise from the Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy film, or the Harry Potter audio books.
I am personally delighted at this news and would be almost bursting with excitement to hear his soothing voice flow into my ears…if I had a PS3. Still, I’m sure there’s some GBC games on the horizon that I can get my teeth into. No seriously, I’m hungry.
Doc and Dave got a chance to see a walkthrough of Sony Online Entertainment’s upcoming MMOFPS The Agency. While they got to see it first hand, and let the SOE representative do the talking, I thought I’d take a minute to hit the high points and offer my off-the cuff impressions. (more…)
