Stardock’s Impulse

August 7th, 2008 · 7 Comments

Stardock’s digital distribution platform, Impulse, may be the new kid on the block, but in true Stardock fashion, it’s quickly building momentum. With the landscape of PC software development changing and the ever increasing power of digital distribution over traditional retail sales, Impulse looks like it may be laying the foundation for the new PC landscape. On Monday, Stardock announced that even more games and applications have been added to Impulse, upping the chocolate chip count on an already great cookie.

Metal Gear Online is about to suck… you dry.

July 14th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Oh man, I’ve reached that terminal stage with Metal Gear Online where I realize there’s something disappointing coming up. It’s happened before with other games: Burnout Paradise had far too many Freeburn Challenges to bother slogging through, Resistance was lame once you’d figured out how to use Hedgehog grenades and if you were in a Warhawk team with no headsets, you were scuppered.

Alas, Metal Gear Online’s disappointment comes in a different way, namely its DLC. Hit the jump for some expressed disappointment in Konami’s business model, or in layman’s terms, why Metal Gear Online is about to suck.

Exclusive: Inside the EndWar Beta!

June 23rd, 2008 · 5 Comments

I was one of the special people picked to take part in the Tom Clancy’s EndWar Beta. Over the week and all this weekend, I’ve spent a ton of time with it. I’ve made a ton of notes on the invite-only multiplayer beta of one of the most highly anticipated console RTS games of the season….

As part of accepting the entry code to the EndWar beta, I was forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement by Ubisoft’s lawyers. In keeping with that agreement, I sent my first draft of this little shocker of an article to Ubisoft’s fleet of lawyers to see if they were okay with my revelations. They made a few alterations, but overall, I was surprised at how much I got away with, to share with the Sarcastic gamer faithful…

And I’m gonna spill it all, after the jump.

Sony’s first attempt at Non-Gaming Content is actually good?

June 23rd, 2008 · 1 Comment

It’s fair to say that Sony aren’t quitters. They’ve really tried their best to provide non-gaming content in an attempt to promote the PS3 as something more than a games console. This hasn’t always worked, but this time though, I think they’ve cracked it (in Europe at least). Sony’s latest is in the form of Movement, a road trip documentary focused on two English blokes, taking a trip across Europe to find the best in independent bands and sign them up to a record deal.

More info on this potentially entertaining content after the leap!

Xbox Live DLC: Have we let it go too far?

April 15th, 2008 · 11 Comments

As you may remember, we kind of were successful in organizing a boycott against Battlefield: Bad Company and Electronic Arts because of a pretty stupid and downright greedy DLC tactic. However, has it become a case of too little too late?

Ace Combat 6 DLC: Officially Worse Than Horse Armor

February 27th, 2008 · 10 Comments

I like DLC for my game of choice. Heck, I’ve probably spent the equivalent of $40 on Rock Band to get all of that juicy extra content to keep my world a rockin. On the other side of that DLC coin, there’s a difference between good DLC and crap.

Ace Combat 6, for the Xbox 360, has a bunch of crap DLC.

DLC For The Multiplayer No One Plays.

Stranglehold was one of the myriad of games this year (Assassins Creed too) that, in my opinion, got a bad rap. Sure the game was really just a blend of other titles like Max Payne, but it was still fun as all hell. I can’t think of another third-person action game this year that even comes close to the insane gun blazing glory Tequila (a.k.a. Chow Yun Fat) brought to the screen.

That said, the game was plagued by problems. Number one was the crappy multiplayer.

Find out what Midway is going to do to fix this after the jump!
