SGC Blog: Fanboy Nature Notes

July 16th, 2008 · 10 Comments

Here’s another community blog post from SGC member Peace Bunny, who comes forth with some nature notes on that bizarre, fascinating creature known as the fanboy. (The bloke in the image above is David Attenborough, a British nature expert.) Remember, getting your moment on the front page is as easy as joining the forums and writing in your own personal blog. If your post’s good enough (funny, well-written, intelligent) it could end up right here. Good work again, Peace Bunny.

The fanboy (scientific name Xboticus Fanbodium) is a bizarre creature. Typically male, he ponders the lands of both the real world and the virtual, seeking innocents and their opinions. Each fanboy will have his own set of strong and bias opinions, typically based beyond the concepts of reason or logic. As soon as a contrasting opinion is discovered the real devilish nature of the fanboy is revealed.

SGC Blog Entry: If I Could, I would…

If you fancy getting onto the front page of Sarcastic Gamer, head on over to the forums, sign up for an account and get writing in your own personal blog. If it’s funny, written well enough, or just plain awesome, it might end up right here. Good job, KJScott!

My plans to write about Dead Rising went the way of the honest politicians, the worlds oil reserves and the Dodos. I’ve spent waaay to much time having to learn flash programming to actually play Dead Rising (though I have played a bit of Morrowind recently) but after reading this months Bi-monthly theme for SG, I just had to write something that’s been sitting in my head for a long while. For those of us who enjoy playing computer RPGs we’ve all asked ourselves this same question ‘if I could, I would’ do. Though my idea is simple, before I start talking about what I would do I want to let you, the reader, know a little bit about my own experiences and thoughts of RPGs in general to help you where I’m coming from and how I came to my answer. SGC Blog: Was GTA IV Homophobic?

July 2nd, 2008 · 6 Comments

Here’s another post fresh from the Sarcastic Gamer Community blogs, this time coming from Danish SGC member Trigger95, who’s been having a little ponder about gay characters in video games. Remember, getting onto the front page is as easy as signing up for an account on the forums and getting to work in your own personal community blog. We’ll be keeping an eye out for any articles that really stand out and putting them up here. Good work, Trigger95.

I just heard the special GTA IV podcast and it really got me thinking. Lono’s reaction to the Bernie character especially seemed to hit home. Lono was slightly upset that Bernie was too much of a stereotype, a token feminine gay man, and indeed he is. His character is incredibly stereotyped, even Elton John would struggle to attain Bernie’s level of gayness, but is this really a problem?

SGC Blog: Console Fanboys vs. PC Fanboys

July 1st, 2008 · 18 Comments

Here’s another post fresh from the Sarcastic Gamer Community Blogs and two day in a row front page blogger, Toshi!. If you fancy getting onto the front page of Sarcastic Gamer, head on over to the forums, sign up for an account and get writing in your own personal blog. If it’s funny, written well enough or just plain awesome, it might end up right here. Another good job, Toshi!

I know that every method of gaming has its die hard fans that worship the ground their chosen platform walks on. While I’ve heard of the fanaticism of PS3 fanboys, I haven’t heard much about the PC fanatics. My first gaming experiences were on the NES, Genesis and SNES, but around that time I got my first PC. To some extent, I still am a PC gamer, even though the majority of my gaming is done on my 360. What I have a hard time doing, is understanding the finality with which PC gamers decree that their way of gaming is the alpha and omega of gaming. I’m open to hear people debate the reasons they think their gaming platform of choice is the best, but I’ve been rather let down by the oversimplified arguments of my co-worker, who is a die-hard PC gamer.

Let me touch on these arguments, after the jump.

SGC Blog: PC fanboy gets console gaming beatdown… blames “joystick”

June 30th, 2008 · 12 Comments

Editor’s Note: Sarcastic Gamer Community member Toshi post this humorous account to his User Blog. Thanks Toshi!

I work with a dyed in the wool gamer who would give up gaming entirely if he couldn’t use his precious PC . While it’s fun having someone to talk games with, his arrogant attitude makes me want to smash his keyboard over his head. He talks unending amounts of trash about how he’s a gaming god (slight exaggeration, but he’s pretty confident that he’s amazing), or how his computer is the ultimate and only gaming machine. There’s no respect for ANY console out there.

SGC Blog: Metal Gear Online Rant

June 25th, 2008 · 15 Comments

This post is from Jacob816’s Sarcastic Gamer Community Blog, if you would like to see something you’ve written featured on the front page of Sarcastic Gamer, simply sign up for a Sarcastic Gamer forum account, head on over to the blogs area and write something compelling!

Okay folks, I am one lazy-ass gamer: quick to temper, but never one to do anything about the object of my dissatisfaction. So what has prompted me to leave the comfort of my chip-encrusted sofa and come and rant on the internet to nobody in particular? Metal Gear Online, and those people that play it like it’s some sort of run-and-gun arcade game of yesteryear. This is not Warhawk or CoD4, it’s MGO. Like it or not, you’re going to have to work as a team if you want to get anywhere playing this game. Yes, you can play like you’re the only person that matters, but playing like that is ignoring the spirit of the game. To get that, you have to use one thing; teamwork. What is the first step towards teamwork? GETTING A FREAKIN’ MIC!!!

I’m a Dave. What are you?

May 15th, 2008 · 22 Comments

From the Sarcastic Gamer User Blog of Kromax44

Over the weekend, I was all set to write a post about how you can divide the world into three types of people: Docs, Daves and Lonos. (Confession: I was trying to make it to the front page.) I had the outline in my mind.

I asked my wife to listen to a couple of recent podcasts to validate my belief that I am a Lono (prone to going off the deep end, emotional, condescending at times, etc.). Naturally, being an ardent anti-gamer, she refused to listen. I sweetened the deal by offering to help do some of the preparations for a big party that we threw on Saturday, and reluctantly, she agreed. (more…)

Sarcastic Gamer: The Game!

Posted 05-07-2008 at 12:45 PM by Kaworus lover
Editor’s note: Yet another witty submission pulled straight from the Community Blog. Congrats, Kaworus lover!

The crew at Sarcastic Gamer announced their plans to stop complaining about games, get up, and make one themselves. After years of playing games they have given up on relying on developers and have gone on to produce their own game that they believe will be better than any other out there.

Even Halo 3.

Nintendo VC’s bright light is fading

May 8th, 2008 · 7 Comments

Community Member RaiseHavok made this post to his SG User Blog today. Wii Fanboys, please check your flamethrowers at the door.

Every Monday, I Die a Little Inside
Posted Today at 09:09 AM by RaiseHavok
The Virtual Console is a great, yet simple idea. Nintendo rakes in cash, while appeasing the nostalgic tendencies of its loyal fans. When Nintendo President Satoru Iwata first announced the VC at E3 2006, I almost lost it. You see, I made the mistake of choosing the Sega Genesis over the Super Nintendo. This is not meant to be a knock on the Genesis, but merely an acknowledgment of the greatness of the SNES. With the introduction of the VC, I would finally be able to play all of the glorious SNES games I missed the first time around. However, my enthusiasm for the service no longer burns as bright as it once did. (more…)

R.I.P. Tugboat

May 7th, 2008 · 13 Comments

Sadly, my illusions about the invincibility of the HUGE tugboat in GTA 4 have been shattered. According to the SG User Blog by Painkilla05, the vessel can and will be destroyed by the Liberty City Poe-Poe, if hit with enough of their Tugboat-piercing rounds. (more…)
