I love good news stories, where the quirky-yet-loveable underdog overcomes adversity and wins the day. I also like free things. So that’s why when forum member Big But 5 mentioned in the forums that Steam was having a free play weekend for Killing Floor, I immediately jumped on Steam to set it to download before I took off for work. YAY! Shiny, new game waiting for me when I get home, and it’s free to play for the entire weekend!
For those of you who might have missed it, Killing Floor is a mod of Unreal Tournament 2004 which involves 6 player co-op zombie killing….wait, did I say “zombie”? I meant, “military experiments gone wrong”. Bottom line, the mod team who created the game in 2005 (before Left 4 Dead, mind you!) brought it to Tripwire Interactive in 2008 to see about getting it put on Steam. Tripwire enjoyed the experience so much, they offered to make it a full, stand-alone game, which came out this May. See, that’s some good news: plucky upstart mod team tinkers around with the Unreal engine, and after years of work on their labor of love, it gets it’s own retail release.
Hey, it’s Extra Life make up weekend, and six player co-op on PC sounds like a pretty damn good idea to me, especially because it’s only a free download away from everyone’s computer this weekend!
One of the big announcements out here in freakin’ the middle of nowhere was at the Sony booth. While they still don’t have a quirky name for their awkward doofus looking“ball-and-stick-ice-cream-cone” motion controller that was revealed at E3 this year, they listed the games that will come out for their launch, as well as those games compatible with their new dipsh*t wavy-wavy stick peripheral.
Well, sometimes the best way to get something started is to just jump head first in and hash out the details on the way down.
Seeing as Summer Games was such a hit, figured I’d try a little different angle to keep the spirit going in between events. Alongside the usual gamernights, we start doing weekly duelist matches. It’s two players, heads up against one another.
So let’s give this a try and see where it goes:
1) Each week, look for the thread in the Official Sarcastic Gamer Night forum to see which game is the week’s challenge game for which systems.
2) Post in the thread that you own the game and that you are looking for a fight.
3) Pick a fight with another SG member who has registered on the thread. You can only challenge that member once a week. The details (time, place, system, game type) of the match are up to the two combatants.
4) All combatants start at 100 experience points. Both players agree to a wager on how many points they are playing for. Max wager is 25 points, and you cannot go below 5 points (so someone can work their way back up if they are knocked out). Not only will win/loss be registered, but the experience point tally will be kept as well.
5) The results of the match are posted on the thread.
6) While prizes have not been announced, top duelists will be rewarded with forum titles, avatars, bragging rights, serving wenches, etc.
Wanna win some filthy lucre? Some Microsoft or PSN points? Then read on, stout yeoman! It’s the Gamernight I think we’ve all been waiting for. Week 4 of Sarcastic Gamer Summer Games continue with freakin’ Overweight Duchess! Portly Baroness?
For the love of all that is holy, do NOT click the jump and watch sixteen minutes of Double Fine’s Brutal Legend being played with game designer Tim Schafer (Psychonauts) giving commentary about the game; Brutal is still due out in October.
I know I give Wii owners two full boat loads of crap; I kid because I love. It’s not that I don’t like the system; I borrowed one from Best Buy a few months back and my wife and I had a decent enough time with Boom Blox and Monopoly. But the serious gamer in me had a hard time getting excited over Da Blob or the Wii’s horrifically bad rendition of Dead Rising.
But wait! Serious gamers rejoice! Game designers over at High Voltage Software have heard your cries for games like Mad World and No More Heroes and are starting to actually make games for people over the age of 12!
Find out what they’ve got up their sleeves after the jump!
So I’m sitting here playing Wheelman and waiting for the final hour to tick off over at Hideo Kojima’s Konami site to see what next big announcement with the number 5 the legendary game director is announcing. Set to expire at Thursday, 9PM EST.
Is he going to announce Zone of the Enders…5? Find out with me after the jump!
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say those aren't fairies.
Five years after the release of their relatively original first person shooter, Dreamcatcher/JoWood is officially announcing at this year’s E3 the latest sequel in the Painkiller series, Painkiller: Resurrection, scheduled for release in late 2009.
I’m personally just looking forward to harpooning ghouls to the sides of buildings and electrocuting ninjas with my electric shuriken launcher.
If you download the multiplayer demo for Capcom’s “Bionic Commando”, there’s a pretty good chance you will have the same first thought that I had when the gameplay started.
“21 years after the original arcade cabinet came out, they finally taught the SOB how to jump!”
