I, like many people, was extremely disappointed with Nintendo’s E3 media briefing. The company promised a game (that’s right, just one) that would keep hardcore gamers occupied this holiday season. That game? “Animal Crossing: City Folk.” Sorry Reggie, I think I will pass.
Aside from “Animal Crossing,” Nintendo introduced “Wii Sports Resort,” “Wii Music,” “Shaun White Snowboarding” and a bunch of other crap I couldn’t care less about. So where is the hardcore game that I should be excited about? It certainly didn’t show up at the press conference.
Well, it took a few additional days, but Shigeru Miyamoto was kind enough to reveal a game that many Nintendo fans have been clamoring for. (more…)
Round two of the epic battle between “Guitar Hero” and “Rock Band” is creeping inevitably closer. I expected that the months leading up to the titles’ fall releases would devolve into a slap fight for song and artist exclusivity.
Fortunately for gamers, that scenario has not happened. However, some music game aficionados might still find it difficult to pick a side. Even though both titles will provide a full-band experience, there are enough differences to distinguish each title. For instance, “Guitar Hero: World Tour” will allow gamers to create their own music (sans vocals). Not to be outdone, Harmonix will make over 500 songs available for “Rock Band 2″ owners by the end of 2008.
It can be a difficult choice. However, it is one that Xbox 360 owners (and hopefully PS3, PS2 and Wii owners) might not have to make ever again. (more…)
Dead Rising lawsuits? Whatever, those are so not happening. Maybe. If they were happening then Famitsu, Japan’s biggest video game magazine (and probably one of the biggest in the world) wouldn’t have published a Dead Rising logo and a screenshot of protagonist Frank West wrassling with a zombie, a Wiimote prompt clearly visible on screen.
Sad smiley face. Nintendo had the chance to blow our mind with some genuinely interesting developments for the Wii but for the past hour all they’ve done is reveal disappointment upon disappointment.
Hit the jump for everything the hour-long presentation had to offer..not that it was much.
Had the chance to sit down to dinner with community members Bono_Hit_My_Car and Truth & Justice last night. We talked about the EA press conference and Dave turned the whole thing into our official recap.
Please check it out, and ignore the dead air at the end of it. We’re doing our best here.
[UPDATE] Here is the E3 2008 trailer for “Wii Music.”
Nintendo’s media briefing today confirmed what we already knew (and feared). The Japanese gaming giant is focusing primarily on the casual audience. Hardcore gamers looking for confirmation of a new “Legend of Zelda” or a new installment in the “Pikmin” franchise were probably massively disappointed with today’s Nintendo press conference. Instead of a new adventure for Link, gamers got “Wii Music.”
Hit the jump for some details and my opinion. (more…)
Fresh from Nintendo’s E3 press conference in Los Angeles comes news of Nintendo’s future plans with the Balance Board, first seen in Wii Fit. One of the first games to use the Balance Board as a game controller will be Shaun White Snowboarding, coming exclusively to the Wii console.
Next Generation is reporting that Nintendo have confirmed an add-on for the Wii Remote, titled the Wii MotionPlus. The MotionPlus is said to promise more accurate movements (1:1 response when compared to a user’s input).
EA press conference was night and day compared with the even Microsoft held today. Unburdened by complex hardware rollouts and silly movie game demonstrations, EA stuck to the games and it paid off big time. The media members present (capacity crowd) figured out how to put two hands together and devoured almost everything that EA put in front of them. I’ve got to admit, it was pretty freakin cool.
We just got a peek at a Wii-exclusive series of games from EA aimed at solving the eternal dilemna of gaming mismatches. Peter Moore introduced All Play a feature being built into numerous Wii titles by EA in the coming year. We watched as Peter Moore played Tiger Woods with an LPGA star whose name I forgot. Sorry, I am sure she’s like very famous and is deserving of my memory. Kill me.
“Rock Band 2,” the sequel to Harmonix’s 2007 smash-hit, is no doubt one of the most hotly-anticipated titles of the fall season. In the weeks following the game’s official announcement, a few play testers revealed a multitude of songs that would supposedly ship with the game. Until now, these leaked set lists were merely rumors. However, Harmonix has gone ahead and revealed the entire set list for the game.
President Bush appealed to fellow world leaders at the G8 summit in Japan earlier this week for assistance with a mysterious “ghost city” in eastern California, whose people appear not to exist. The appeal comes three weeks after the President paid a visit to the metropolis in question, known as Paradise City. The city has recently been the subject of an update known only as ‘Cagney’, which brought it to the President’s attention.
