I hear you're pretty good at podcasting: First attempt at a podcast: first 10 minutes of content has taken me approximately six hours to learn the software, find the quotes, write the script, record the tracks, bleep the swear words...I'll be interested to see how long it takes me to crank out the last 10 now that I have a general idea of what I'm doing.

Japan Has Spoken: Bayonetta’s Ass is Perfection!

October 30th, 2009 · 4 Comments

While this story is over a week old, I let it simmer. I was hoping that someone would come back and debunk the information as PR spin, because to me, it just seems improbable.

The Sarcastic Gamer Duelist League, Week 7 (Oct 28-Nov 3): Team Fortress 2

October 28th, 2009 · No Comments

Well, the Uncharted 2/Brutal Legend Duelist League week had an unprecedented number of fatalities at the hands of  newcomer Stoned Sheep.  Not only did he beat all challengers at mutliplayer (including yours truly), but he then went on to take humiliating still screenshots of him kicking the hell out of each and every opponent.  Usually, this involved [...]

SG Review: Torchlight (PC)

October 28th, 2009 · 16 Comments

Good lord, I don’t even know where to begin.
Imagine if the makers of Diablo 1 and 2, Mythos, and Fate all got together and created a game that took Diablo 2…and improved on it’s gameplay?  And then gave you a construction kit that allows you to go in and create your own maps and classes [...]

Demon’s Souls: True Survival Horror?

October 28th, 2009 · 7 Comments

If you’ve heard anything about From Software’s Demon’s Souls for the PS3, you know it’s a beast of a difficult game, daring you to play it and laughing at your failures.  The realization that this game is the closest to survival horror that you’re going to get on a video game this console generation came last [...]

SG Review: Half-Minute Hero (PSP)

October 27th, 2009 · 2 Comments

No, the game’s title is not a crude reference to anyone’s sexual prowess in the bedroom.  It’s actually a cleverly designed PSP title by XSeed, where you play across a series of 30-second-long mini games spoofing Japanese role playing games like Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy (the original NES version).  Think of it as the [...]

The Curse of the Hardcore Wii Game

October 27th, 2009 · 5 Comments

Well, it happened once again.  The “hardcore” Wii fans kick and scream for a “hardcore” title for their little girly system.  A big boy M-rated title releases and receives generally good marks across the board from all the major reviewers out there.  Finally, the monthly sales numbers come back, and everyone is shocked at how [...]

“What the Dealie, Yo?” A Trio of Deals for You!

October 26th, 2009 · No Comments

Well, I wasn’t going to write on any of these topics, but seeing as times are tough and we’ve got a very large demographic of people who haven’t had their first part time job yet, free and cheap is more good-er.
So here’s a trio of deals too good to pass up on!

Killing Floor: Free Play Weekend! (PC)

October 23rd, 2009 · 1 Comment

I love good news stories, where the quirky-yet-loveable underdog overcomes adversity and wins the day.  I also like free things.  So that’s why when forum member Big But 5 mentioned in the forums that Steam was having a free play weekend for Killing Floor, I immediately jumped on Steam to set it to download before [...]

“Game of the Year”: Single Player vs. Multiplayer

October 23rd, 2009 · 30 Comments

This is going to be an interesting year, because I get the feeling that the list of titles up for the ever-so-prestigious Game of the Year could be rather long.
But more importantly, I also feel that the battle lines for the people’s choice will be broken into two distinctive camps: single player versus multiplayer.  There [...]

Sid Meier Announces Facebook/Civilization Game In A Blatant Attempt to Ruin My Life

October 23rd, 2009 · 6 Comments

I started swearing out loud when I read this announcement this morning.  Sid Meier plans on tapping into 300 million free accounts by giving them all a taste of what real games are made of.  None of that Farmtown or Mafia Wars nonsense: let’s see how Harriet the Housewife does against raising an empire against [...]

The Sarcastic Gamer Duelist League, Week 6 (Oct 21-27): Brutal Legend/Uncharted 2

October 21st, 2009 · No Comments

In honor of two of the larger titles to hit the shelves in some time (in my opinion), we’re going to double up on them for this week’s Duelist League:  Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2!  Of course, if I could do a Demon’s Souls Duelist League week, I totally would.
Maybe you people need to look [...]

Chasing the Multiplayer “Big Dog”: Sometimes, Why Bother?

October 20th, 2009 · 9 Comments

If you play video games at all, you’re familiar with the tale of World of Warcraft.  The plucky little licensed upstart grew from what people presumed was going to be an Everquest ripoff to one of the most popular online games evar.
And, yes, that’s spelled EVAR.

October 19th, 2009 · 23 Comments

In an upcoming Dashboard update for the 360, Microsoft has intimated that they plan on cracking down on unauthorized memory units and hard drives by rendering them inoperable once the update is applied.
Okay, not exactly like the pic, but pretty close.
