Which Racing game will you buy this Christmas?

October 9th, 2008 · 7 Comments

It’s been a fair amount of time since I last went out and picked up a big name racing title. This time around, not only am I presented with 3 big name racing titles, but I find myself struggling to pick between three different platforms to play them. Do I go with the PC, my home turf? Do I go with the PS3? Or do I go with the PSP, which has been my main racing platform of late?

Most importantly, are all three of the upcoming big name racing titles even worth owning?

Find out which two racing titles have kicked my hype meter into overdrive and which one has all the appeal of an old Pinto after the jump!

Patapon 2 FEVER

October 9th, 2008 · 1 Comment

If someone had told me last year that a simple rhythm based title on a handheld would one day reside among my favorite games of all time, I would have laughed in their face…and then quickly run away on the off hand chance they were right…People who can see the future creep me out! If you haven’t guessed already (title is a clue!), I’m talking about Patapon. My loyal tribe of Patapon have traveled with me everywhere, filling every moment I was away from my home with never ending song. I just recently kicked my Patapon habit, only to discover Patapon 2 is on the way! FEVER!!!!!

Interplay Entertainment rises again

September 25th, 2008 · 5 Comments

After almost two decades as one of the most bad ass publishers in the biz, Interplay Entertainment found itself in such dire straights that it was forced to first sell the license for Fallout 3 to Bethesda Softworks and later the IP itself. Though the company had been struggling since 2002. After its founder, Brian Fargo, left after Interplay was bought by Titus Interactive, the sale of the Fallout IP marked the end of an era for a lot of keyboard jockeys.

Or so we thought…

Call of Duty 6 and some Treyarch cake

September 17th, 2008 · 7 Comments

Shocking news! Infinity Ward is going to be developing Call of Duty 6!

Ok, so maybe the news is not that shocking at all. We all knew they’d be back after gamers finished devouring their “World at War, hold us over until COD6″ cake. Just like before, Infinity Ward is going to trade places with Treyarch, alternating who is developing the next COD title. Which has left a lot of people thinking that World at War is going to be another COD3. Unfair? Likely?

Take-Two shakes off EA pursuit

September 16th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Nothing is more annoying than someone who won’t take no for answer. When I hear someone say “No” to an idea, I usually move on, or at least try to think of a way to really persuade the person it’s a good idea. I don’t follow them around for seven months repeating the same thing over and over again like a 3 year old begging for candy. Well it seems EA has finally realized that Take-Two is not going to give them a GTA treat and so they have (finally) left to find another company to beg candy from.

Stardock’s Impulse

August 7th, 2008 · 7 Comments

Stardock’s digital distribution platform, Impulse, may be the new kid on the block, but in true Stardock fashion, it’s quickly building momentum. With the landscape of PC software development changing and the ever increasing power of digital distribution over traditional retail sales, Impulse looks like it may be laying the foundation for the new PC landscape. On Monday, Stardock announced that even more games and applications have been added to Impulse, upping the chocolate chip count on an already great cookie.

From God of War to God of Nice?

July 30th, 2008 · 6 Comments

There never really was any doubt that Sony’s God of War franchise would eventually make its way to the big screen. Hollywood loves making money off of an idea they don’t have to come up with themselves. So we knew it was going to happen, but who is going to actually make it? Will fans luck out like Microsoft’s Gears of War did with Legendary Pictures (they made 300 and The Dark Knight) or will they get some Uwe Boll type fool, looking to make a quick buck, fans be damned?

Find out who will be directing the God Of War film and more after the jump!

Watchmen game might not suck.

July 24th, 2008 · 2 Comments

For those of you who don’t already know, Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s Watchmen is set to hit the silver screen March 6, 2009. Watchmen is arguably one of the best graphic novels of all time, bending and even breaking many of the rules associated with main stream comic book characters/stories. Seeing as how this is a high profile movie, with super powered, violent characters, a video game tie-in is a given. Before any of you scream “it’s gonna suck” and stop reading right there. I’m hoping that this may just be one movie tie-in game to look forward to, if only because of the creative and unique way developer Deadline Games is tackling it.

GfWL is now free…golf clap.

July 23rd, 2008 · 3 Comments

If your a PC gamer you’ve probably heard of Games For WIndows Live by now. It’s Microsoft’s PC answer to Xbox Live. Trouble is, XBL is awesome and GfWL is monkey poo. Charging PC gamers for things that had always been free (and still are through any number of services and titles) was stupid. Hyping cross-platform play, without one single AAA game to show it off, or even prove that anyone besides MS had an interest in it, was also really stupid. Well apparently the smell of monkey feces has finally reached some of the right nostrils because GfWL is now free!

Join with me to applaud their ability to use that mysterious thing we like to call “common sense.”

KOTOR 3 is…an MMO?

July 21st, 2008 · 8 Comments

When EA purchased Bioware a lot people, myself included, expressed grave concerns over the quality of future installments for Bioware developed titles. I think I still have a few voodoo dolls laying around just in case our worst fears become reality. Chief among the titles fans have been waiting for is the third installment to the Knights of the Old Republic franchise. Alas, it seemed Bioware was too busy working on a super secret MMO (via their new studio in Austin, Texas), to get around to making KOTOR 3 any time soon. That was until last Thursday when EA CEO John Riccitiello let slip that the new Bioware MMO title and KOTOR 3 were one and the same.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Little Big Planet for the PS3

July 17th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Out of all the games scheduled to be hoisted up for praise at this years E3, only one had me twitching for more details. That game, of course, is Little Big Planet. You know, that game I brazenly said would be the PS3’s game of the year. With some stellar new gameplay videos and some great stage demo’s, I feel pretty justified in my GOTY declaration.

E3 Wanted LowDown

July 17th, 2008 · 4 Comments

After playing Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, which both took suckatude to previously unimaginable heights, what little faith I had in movie tie-in games died. You push a game to be released at the same time as a movie and you get garbage. Which is why the recent announcement by developer GRIN is so special. Rather than give us yet another game that only a blind mother could love, GRIN is working on a Wanted movie tie-in game that, obviously, will NOT be limited by a film release window. Considering how wicked the comic book and the film were (storyline and acting notwithstanding), I would definitely be interested in this title.
