Is it that time of the year again for some awkward cartoon boy love? Well, as much as many Kingdom Hearts fans hoped to see the return of Sora and Riku together with that other chick on the side – Terri? Fairy? Oh right, it’s Kairi – in Kingdom Hearts III, those dreams were shot down before you could put your cosplay on.
It’s already public knowledge that Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for the PSP was going to be presented at this year’s E3. In fact, the game has a release date for September 7th in North America and September 10th in Europe. Yet despite its interesting premise and as great as the game looks with the footage already out from Japan who’s had it since January (it’s not fair that just because they made the game they get it first! Lucky bastards), it was still not the Kingdom Hearts a lot of the fans wanted.
But excitement started to rise when it was announced that Kingdom Hearts creator and Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura was making an appearance at E3 2010. That promise of free egg rolls and sushi must have sealed the deal… because that’s what the Japanese like right?
No one knew if his appearance at E3 would mean anything epic besides a probable re-reveal of Versus XIII, but thanks to an interview in the latest issue of Game Informer, it seems we may be getting something just as good.
Q: Translations of your interview in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Ultimania seem to confirm that Kingdom Hearts III is coming along with two other games.
A: Kingdom Hearts III is not a confirmed title. I actually phrased my answer for the Ultimania “two titles other than III” to avoid speculation that we were working on Kingdom Hearts III.Q: Are there any hints you can provide about these new games?
A: Hints would give away too much, and for Kingdom Hearts we’re contractually obligated to keep any information that has not been official released under wraps. However, I can say one of the two projects mentioned above came into existence because we wanted to do something for the North American fans, so we’ll be announcing it at E3.Q: Any chance these new games will spread to consoles that Kingdom Hearts hasn’t been on yet like Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, or iPhone?
A: We have no plans at the moment, but have been discussion opportunities with various parties, so once we’ve completed the two new projects we’ll begin thinking about the next steps.
Although it’s not what I was hoping for (it’s been 5 years since Kingdom Hearts II was released so I was being optimistic), it’s still great news to hear Square Enix is doing “something for the North American fans.” Knowing that detail and scratching off Kingdom Hearts III, this new title could as well be Kingdom Hearts: Recoded, a console remake of Coded for the DS or PSP. This project has already been confirmed on the webpage of Jiminy Cricket’s new voice actor Phil Snyder.
Coded is an eight episode game only for Japanese mobile phones that takes place after the events of Kingdom Hearts II. It centers on a cryptic message left in Jiminy Cricket’s journal, which King Mickey digitizes to enter the data world and investigate. It’s not much of a continuation to the series as it is an explanation to the final cutscene of Kingdom Hearts II.
Well, in the words of Organization XIII’s member Demyx, “Dance Water! Dance!” This is completely irrelevant and random, but it just reminds me of David Bowie in the Labyrinth. That always makes me happy.

Nomura is way to busy with FFVS13, but i haven’t had my kingdom hearts fill ever since KH2. I love those games (365/2 put me to sleep but that’s another story.)
I only played the games 365/2 and Chain of Memories for the story… and it was tough to do it even for that.
When KH3 comes out, I’ll buy whatever console it’s on.
Here’s hoping it’s an exclusive for the PS3 though. I think Sony needs it considering they lost FFXIII as one

I like that the kingdom hearts series is exclusive to the PS2. Hopefully it will remain the same for the PS3.
I never played the first two games as I never owned a PS2, but I tried playing Kingdom Hearts 365/2 days for the DS. Maybe it’s just a horrible spot to get into the series, but I didn’t really get the story. Something about everyone didn’t have a heart or something, and for some reason Aladin was there. Oh and we ate a lot of sea salt ice cream. I didn’t make it far before I gave up.
Shame on you for thinking that was a good start to the series! That game is only good for the Roxas fans and those who wish to know his backstory. Sadly, the best games to really know what Kingdom Hearts is all about is the PS2 games KHI and KHII. None of the games on the handhelds do it justice. Until Square Enix decides to remaster it like Santa Monica did with God of War 1 and 2, people who didn’t have a PS2 won’t know it’s greatness
well… what about birth by sleep?! that looks a bit more promising. and chain of memories wasn’t THAT bad.. i played it all the time in class
@cloudx: Birth by Sleep seems to be a good handheld game considering the story looks very interesting (a prequel dealing with Xehanort) and with it being on the PSP, the mechanics must be good. But I’ll wait for E3 for some hands on experience (if they have a playable demo) to see how it is before heading to YouTube to check it out more. Chain of Memories’s card gameplay was annoying to me :-/
Very jealous your going to E3. And you better get some podcast air time on the hands on demo of birth by sleep. And I’m expecting some sort of double bundle of Kh1 and 2 on ps3 announcement at E3.

i am shaking in excitement and hoping that he is referring to the much-wanted “Kingdom Hearts Final Mix” over here. although I would prefer the second Final Mix over the first. Also, a NEW story would be fun too, like one that actually continues after KH2, none of this prequel crap (referring of course to BBS and 358/2 days)
Well (re)Coded is after Kingdom Hearts 2, it’s just not much after. It’ll simply explain what motivated Mickey to write that letter to Sora, Riku, and Kairi at the end of the second game. But I’d prefer a new game altogether
I wouldn’t expect Final Mix; Nomura has already confirmed the KH announcements at E3 won’t be on either Xbox 360 or PS3, the only fitting consoles for a Final Mix.
Dude, all I want right now is a friggen confirmation of KH3. It sucks that we are being kept in the dark for almost 6 years now. I will wait the amount of time needed to wait for this game, just tell me if its happening (which I am sure it will) but it’s just so annoying to have to hold our breath for it lol. These games are way too fun to have us wait this long. I’ve never played any of the handheld games, re:coded just looks dumb, I saw the trailer today. I guess i’ll just search again for KH3 information in about 6 months haha.
Is kingdom hearts 3 even going to come out I mean they made 4 final fantasys sence kingdom hearts 2 ! Well becides the story games, but really Make anouther kingdom hearts Square enix. if not then at least put kh1 and kh2 on the xbox 360 that I would like to see!

As king, i order them to make KHIII as we all love the games sooo much!!!! It is not fair that we have to wait for years before they carry the story on properly! I hope they hurry up!
Although i do have to admit final fantasy XIII is a brilliant game! But KH is way better lol hurry up and carry on the story! I miss Sora,Donald,Goofy,Riku,kairi and all the other charactors :’(
