Well, the gaming glut of the Holiday Season 2009 is over. As we settle in toward the end of the year, it’s time to take stock in the games of 2009 and pick our favorites. So, I gathered our peeps on Twitter at www.Twitter.com/LonoSG and www.Twitter.com/sarcasticgamer and asked: What was your Game of the Year for 2009.
The results were surprising. Read on for the consensus pick and read what others had to say about some of the best games from 2009!
After the call to action from the tweeps, I received over 150 responses. Most people picked one of the following games:
Dragon Age
Modern Warfare 2
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Left 4 Dead 2
Red Faction: Guerilla
Uncharted 2
Borderlands
We also had one vote for Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat. Thanks for that vote…
Here’s what the tweeps had to say about the games of 2009.
@GunnerDoitch: I would have to say LFD2, it’s got the capability to be the most fun, it give a better replayability and there’s more game modes.
@evilcrash9: Arkham Asylum, mostly because I’m gay for Bats and stuff.
@emac12: uncharted 2. The experience was unlike anything I’ve seen in gaming. It was as cinematic as a movie and the acting was incredible.
@Demief: Arkham asylum. I only rented it but its nice to see a new game that doesn’t have 2 at the end and is enjoyable. Maybe dragon age…
@KumiKaze: My GOTY is Uncharted 2. I like a good story and U2 kept me engaged in the story and characters and wanting to keep going for hours
@BlinkinCard41: Arkham Asylum. It was the best single player experience I have had all year. It was pretty innovative and never felt tedious.
@Talkingship: My Pick for GotY would be Borderlands. Sure, MW2 is great and all, but I look for innovation from my GotY Candidates. Borderlands FTW
@Niyon: Modern Warfare 2: Not only raised the bar for the next CoD games, but for the whole FPS genre. Spec Ops added new “bite sized” games
@b3nr1ch4rd: killzone 2 not the only good one but the only one i’ve played all year long>uncharted 2 cause it deliver>batman AA surprisingly good
@Mashiem: Game of the Year – Batman Arkham Asylum. Not only was it a thoroughly well done game, but it proved that licensed games can be good.
@zthirteen07: If you make me pick one, then I’ll go with Beatles: Rock Band because I’ve had more fun with it.

I picked infamous :/ But that’s my taste :p
Absolutely worthy “winners”.
My pick is for The Beatles: Rock Band. Though I’ve played more compeeling games this year, like one of the tweets said, I’ve had the most fun with this game.
Wohoo I voted for Batman AA.
i’m completely torn between Batman: AA and Uncharted 2… I never could make a decision which is why I never re-tweeted. Both games were excellent in there execution and each left me wanting more. I’m really excited for the potential in the sequels which will be happening no question. If I HAD to make a choice I will go ahead and say Uncharted 2, simply based on my length of total play time with that game. Just to clear this up, I frickin love Modern Warfare 2, but I normally place my goty vote towards a game with a superb single player experience. I truly believe that is where Uncharted 2 shined above the rest.
: Arkham Asylum. It was the best single player experience I have had all year. It was pretty innovative and never felt tedious.
All good games, but if dragon age couldn’t win, I’m glad batman won. Great game.
Demons Souls
Just curious even though the game didn’t come out this year I just got to playing dead space a few months ago and it was amazing eventhough it isn’t new I played it this year so could I be able to call it my GOTY?
batman may have been my pick if 60% of the levels didn’t end in me having to throw a batarang into the face of someone then dodging.
batman arkham asylum was great, too bad killer croc was to easy, i really wanted a big brawl with him
just screwing around with batarang felt too simple and weak
Batman AA is one of the worst games I have bought in a long time its super boring and way way way way way over rated. Its like Assassins Creed with Batman skins over it.
Its MW2 hands down.
Tweeps got it right this year. B:AA got my vote for GOTY also. IDKW, but IMHO it was TBWTSEL.
Haha, wtf smelly?
You didn’t give the Saboteur a fair chance, plus Arkham came out in August when there was nothing else to play. I’m sure I’m not the only one who hasn’t gotten around to mw2 yet
Uncharted2 was my game of the year, then I played Arkham Asylum.
All in all a good year for games when there’s so many possible candidates.
Got Borderlands in the post as I type and tomorrow I’m going to borrow my friend’s copy of Dragon Age, so who knows? I may even change my mind again.
l4d2 is hands down my goty pick who doesnt like zombies nuts getting shot off
