Do you have a brand one of those fancy-dancy new PS3 that sometimes sounds like a jet preparing for take-off while you’re playing Uncharted 2? If so, Talismoon just announced the thing to alleviate your problems! Don’t be content with the stock fan in your PS3 slim, the new (or should I say old) fan they’re offering has 19 fan blades on it, just like the cooling fan the original PS3 launched with. The slim PS3, apparently as a cost cutting measure, uses a 15 blade version of the fan and needs to spin at a higher speed which producing more noise just to offering the same cooling factor.
I don’t know about you, but I want as many fan blades as technologically possible on my fans. Ideally, it would be a solid disc of metal with fan blades crammed together at the molecular level, but I understand there are efficiency issues with “my” design.
In the grand scheme of things, I sometimes wonder what the total cost savings is to a company like Sony by switching to a fan with FOUR fewer fan blades? I think I even forgot the best part; did I mention you have to completely disassemble your PS3 to replace your fan? Sure, Sony lets you replace your hard drive on a PS3 without voiding the warranty, but this replacement fan SHREDS your warranty (as in “literally”… rumor has it that those four extra blades are laser sharpened to a razor’s edge specifically to shread your warranty!)
If one of you brave souls gives this stupid waste of money fan replacement project a shot, please come back here and share your results with us, we’d love to mock you hear how it went!

oh wow, why would anyone try this?
and who would sell this at their store ?!
I went a different route….. I used the B.F.H. mod on my ps3.

I think my results will be just as good as this new fan you speak of.
Also I’m Preety sure that a B.ig F.u*king H.ole will not void my warranty either.
actually droozy i’m certain sony would just say that the PS3 proberly broke when you cut the whole into the side, your just giving them a reason to rip up your warrenty.
Why sony allowed something to be made that when used makes the PS3’s warrenty squat is beyond me, it’s almost as if they went to get out of repearing PS3s…
Yeeeeah, no.
umm, tis a joke. I would not cut a huge effin hole in my ps3 with a butter knife….. jeebus….. i would use a dremel.
Does the fan shred install times, too?
no in fact placing the fan into the PS3 comes with it’s own install time.
