The most glaring difference between the two LBP versions is LBP PSP doesn’t feature the great multiplayer element LBP PS3 has.
Yes… I’ll give you a minute to come to grips with that one.
While you’re lamenting, at least know that the game is really fun WITHOUT the multiplayer. I know it may seem to go against the very nature of LBP and had this version come first, it really may have weakened the allure of LBP as a whole, but LBP PSP only feels limited in scope, not ability or (most importantly) fun. I should mention that level creation (and yes, level sharing) are very much intact in LBP PSP.
Sony tapped their Cambridge studio to handle the project, and it’s clear now that whoever made that decision deserves a massive pat on the back. While I’d never want to take anything away from Media Molecule’s efforts on the PS3, I’m almost more impressed by what Sony did in-house on the PSP version. This is not a compromise in quality. It is LittleBigPlanet… only Littler.
If you have a PSP and don’t absolutely hate LBP or platformers, you owe it to yourself to check out LBP PSP. The game ships with over 30 levels included but you’ll have access to download user created levels…which basically means you will have a LOT of playtime with this purchase. The tutorials in the game do an excellent job of getting you familiar with the controls and your abilities without losing what makes LBP so special in the first place. Level editing works surprisingly well given the fewer controls on the PSP over the DualShock 3.
Talking about LBP PSP could’ve simply been summed up by saying “It is LBP without the multiplayer gameplay and waving your arms independently of each other” but that’s way too many words and letters, so let me simplify it for you guys a bit and get it down to sixteen characters (not including spaces and punctuation) OMG LBP PSP FTW!
