So it was mentioned during the PODCast that shortly after the release of PS3 games there is usually a patch to fix something.

I wonder if there is any correlation between whether the game was ported to the PS3 and the need for patches and those exclusive to the PS3 and the need for patches.

Just some food for thought.

Would you have felt the same sense of responsibility or guilt at having a soldier die in the line of duty, compared to actually being the soldier as he is all but forced to kill civilians?

This week's Destructoid podcast went into it at depth on several levels. If you're still not buying it, I would recommend a listen.

Well, I don't think anyone needed a recap of what happened, but thanks I guess.

Still not buying it though. Yes it is the catalyst for the main story, BUT, we did not need that to be a playable level in the game. I have no problem having it as a core plot point, it's a great catalyst your right, but allowing players to be part of a massacre IS for shock value.

I'm not saying that story point should not have been there, or that they could not have shown that scene in any number of other ways that would have been just as compelling. I just thinking making it an actual playable level, with no achievements/trophies/challenge at all was more about shock and awe than the NEED for that level.

*listens about the Airport scene*

Dude, play the game again. No Russian has you kill many Russians, both civvies and police, as Pvt. Allen (The US Ranger you do the training part as), going undercover as a Russian terrorist. You kill many people, then Makarov kills you.

Let's recap. You kill Russians, villain kills you during his getaway. He leaves an American corpse that was SEEN to be alive before, killing Russians in a terrorist act. It's the catalyst for the entire game, and saying it's for shock value really does disrespect both Infinity Ward for thinking you might notice its relevance, and to yourself for falling for the mainstream media shenanigans.
