Welcome to Eurogamer London, where the games of tomorrow (as well as the games of last month), are playable, and you can’t get anywhere near them because in true gaming fashion, the event organisers have set up what I can only describe as “choke points” throughout the building. Were I a hunter of gaming nerds, I’d be on a guaranteed kill streak.
I’m currently sat on the floor of the press room (hereby referred to as the press balcony, for it allows oversight of the entire show floor), typing this article up in Wordpad because the WiFi signal has gone – and I hate to use this phrase – mental bental chicken oriental.
We’ve just gotten out of a developer session with Blackrock Studios who have been showing off their upcoming racing title – Split/Second. Despite the misleading name of the game, no seconds were split, my ear drums were, however. The presentation was mostly a “What we’ve been through to get to this point” speech, but the trailers shown were a bit of a marvel to behold.
As an added bonus, we were also presented with a live on-screen gameplay demo of the “Docks” which proved without a shadow of a doubt that the visuals in this game are truly stunning, and the gameplay does – despite my previous doubts up until this point – seem quite capable of pulling off what the buzz promises.
MightyMutt is currently in the Splash Damage developer session looking at Brink, meanwhile Pillowfort, Yamster, Eoco and I are about to exit the press area (where we found free drinks and FINALLY lucked out on a table!), and get our gaming on. Personally, I’m heading straight for Battlefield Bad Company 2.
Keep an eye on SG throughout today and tomorrow for more news from Eurogamer!
