In an upcoming Dashboard update for the 360, Microsoft has intimated that they plan on cracking down on unauthorized memory units and hard drives by rendering them inoperable once the update is applied.
Okay, not exactly like the pic, but pretty close.
I’m sure Microsoft has a good reason for this. I mean, third-party hard drives are not tested by Microsoft for compatibility, which leads to system failures and other problems associated with third-party accessories. They’re dealing with enough problems with the “Red Rings of Death” bricking systems left and right, they certainly don’t need any more consoles sent back to them. They’re just trying to make sure your console works! How nice of them!
Microsoft also stated that these types of unauthorized hard drives can be used to cheat or to unlock additional achievements. So you see? Microsoft is really looking out for our best interests! I do hate cheaters, and now Microsoft is helping me by dealing with them! What great guys!
I’m absolutely positive it has nothing to do with the fact that Microsoft doesn’t see a dime of unlicensed third-party hardware, while charging $135 for a 120 GB hard drive. No way, Jose. They are our friends! They would never do something to further monopolize their stranglehold on the console market or bump off any kind of friendly competition.
Bottom line here: if you own one of these devices and have saved files on them, you’d better get off your butt and go buy yourself a brand new, shiny, overpriced 120 GB Microsoft-approved hard drive and transfer all that data over, or you will shortly find yourself in a canoe in a river of dog excrement without a proper method to propel oneself.
Author’s Note: Over the last few months, I’ve noticed I’m growing fonder of Sony and becoming further agitated with Microsoft, so if my writing is starting to lean towards the PS3, well…what can you do? With stunts like this, Microsoft is apparently attempting to reach the ranks of “Super Villian” to join up with Jack Thompson and Bobby Kotick’s Activision.

Microsoft are such fags, its just another money stunt but unfortunately i cant seem to be able to drag myself away from my xbox and maybe even consider buying a ps3- although tht does sound a little extreme, maybe a mac instead.

Microsoft’s next plan will proberly be to have all PS3 exclusives put on the 360 and then have Exclusive DLC on the 360 version and then to downrightly hynotise people to buy 360’s while the new C.E.O sits then in he’s chair stroking a cat. Is blofield the new C.E.O of microsoft by any chance?
I understand why they would be doing this, but it’s definitely not the right way to approach this issue. What Microsoft is doing just doesn’t seem fair.
What if Little Timmy really likes purchasing Xbox Live Arcade games, but doesn’t have enough money to lay down on a first party hard drive? The best way to deal with cheaters is to DEAL WITH CHEATERS, not anyone who doesn’t have a Microsoft-issued hard drive.

Most days we laugh at 360 owners, how they constantly get screwed over, get the inferior games, yet somehow spin it to sound like everythings great.
It’s a fantastic time to be a PS3 owner right now…

In other news Apple release a new iphone with a bigger hard drive (still unable to take out the battery, or upgrade your own hard drive) and people still rush out and buy it, including both Sony and MS Fanboys

An iPod hard drive and a laptop hard drive are two completely separate things… That’s like comparing Uncharted 2 to Halo 3… But no one would be that stupid to compare the two… right?
see your just determined to find new reasons to insult me. My comparisons to halo and uncharted were only in the ways they were flawed such as enemies being the same and the weapons being similar in the franchises like the SMG in every halo.

I’m a Mac user, and I have to say that the Xbox 360 is among the few things that Microsoft have made, that are actually good, but they keep making it worse and worse, with all their BS!
Yes I have seen many mp3 players that take SD cards as memory expansions.
The logic was simple: other big companies do a something similar and don’t get hammered on.
The simple fact ofthe matter is Microsoft are closing the hole that allows game saves etc to easy transffered.
But darkwonders if you want something similar. It would be like Sony stopping fom upgrading your battery in the PSP Go to stop you hacking the firmware.

Not to start this off again though for MS it is worst becasue with the SD cards at least there’s some subsitutes you can get as not to pay too much though with SD cards i always assumed price came down to GB size rather them manufacter
