Oh how I wish this could be a Fiction Friday article. We at Sarcastic Gamer are obvious xbots, so why wouldn’t we want to poke fun at Sony again, and again and yet show nothing but love for the 360. Unfortunately, part of our contract requires us to show equal love for both platforms, so occasionally we have to write something positive for the PS3.
We’re still allowed to make fun of the Wii as much as we want to though. Go figure. Follow me after the jump for some PS3 love.
I’m sure everyone still remembers the rather odd commercials that Sony used when the PS3 debuted. Actually, the words “rather odd” would be an understatement. That launch campaign fell between the categories of “WTF?” and “extremely creepy.” Then, whomever was in charge of that marketing fiasco was sacked (5 points to whoever gets that reference).
Sure, the commercials got a bit better with this, but I still wasn’t that impressed. All they were doing was flashing a bunch of fancy video editing, which left me a bit disappointed. The guys who replaced the original were also sacked.
Next along the line of commercials were the murals commercials. Apparently, the new marketing people wanted to one up the preceding commercials and go for a mix of flashy video editing with a side of WTF. Things got even more bizarre with the release of this commercial. Seriously? Do ANY gamers play like that? And no, Wii gamers don’t count.
In other news, those responsible for sacking the marketing department got themselves sacked.
Finally someone with a brain was hired. They finally came up with something catchy. Something funny. Something simple. Coinciding with the $299 price drop, Sony released a commercial blitz that openly poked fun at themselves for denying that a price drop would happen. Honestly, what other company has the balls to make fun of themselves in that nature. Microsoft? Nintendo? Apple? Hah. Yeah right.
These catchy commercials didn’t stop there. Soon after, a few more catchy commercials debuted, all still displaying that simple, yet effective humor that none of the previous marketing campaigns could capture. I personally thought they had outdone themselves with the Uncharted 2 commercial, but boy was I wrong. Friday, the Playstation Blog decided to show off 2 of their new commercials.
I believe that Sony has finally figured out a good campaign ad. Now if the the PS3 could REALLY do Everything, then I’d be set.

I love the details in these new commercials.
The first commercial (299$ one) had Destructoid in one of the background monitors.
Kevin Butler – VP of Epic Footage
And “It only does All-nighters”
Hope they use this commercial recipe for a while, hate to see them throwing them away for a new creepy wtf ad. (although the creepy ads give a lot of free PR on youtube, unintentional or not)
2 words- Mon. Tage.
too bad that even though a ps3 cant do everything it can still do more than a xbox 360.
. . . . . . too early?
was that a reference to Monte Python and the Holy Grail?
You, sir. Get 5 points!
it does everything, exept running pirates or originals ps2 games, also home sucks
only a handful of things it cant do anymore.
play psp games, flash card readers, SACD, PS2 compatability, and make waffles
HA FINNALY YOU EDMIT IT! I KNEW ONE DAY YOU WOULD BREAK! *Runs off to secret PS3 fanboy cave*
I’m glad they finnaly improved the adverts, i was starting to think sony was taking advice from senior cardgage for their adverts.
As I was watching the second commercial I called that he would be shredding on a guitar…I did not however call the 80’s hair metal wig and confetti. Playstaion, you rule.
Reference = opening titles to Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail.
“My sister saw a moose once”
Lol,this Kevin Butler guy is fuckin epic.
