November to rock a bit harder thanks to Brutal Legend DLC

Brutal Legend Banner

Christian Slater. Elton John. Jake “The Snake” Roberts. What do they have in common? They have nothing to do with this topic. I just needed an introduction for my article.

Brutal Legend is already packed with a hearty helping of content, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have more. Keeping with that philosophy, Double Fine and Electronic Arts have revealed the Tears of the Hextadon DLC pack, which will include two new multiplayer maps, as well as an ax dubbed the Blade of Ormagoden. The namesake for the ax is the mythical fire beast of Brutal Legend lore, so I’m expecting something wicked. To be specific, a blade head adorned with “Street Sharks” stickers. Also, flame attacks, a neon orange tint and glitter.

For descriptions of the Circle of Tears and Death’s Fjord maps, hit up the official EA release. Also, note that Tears of the Hextadon is labeled the “first downloadable content.” From that, it seems that Double Fine is planning additional add-ons for the future.

This will be a free PlayStation Network download for two weeks starting Nov. 5, after which it will cost $4.99. The deal is exclusive to PlayStation 3 owners, as Xbox Live members will have to pay full price – 400 MS Points – from launch. Certainly a raw deal if you bought Brutal Legend for Microsoft’s machine, but that’s the nature of the industry. PS3 owners constantly get the short end of the DLC stick, and all’s fair in the console wars I suppose. Kudos to Sony for cutting a deal, if that’s indeed what happened.

In other news, Titan Studios has announced that the New Pork map for Fat Princess will be gratis, and Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig recently told IndustryGamers to expect Uncharted 2: Among Thieves DLC – free and premium – before the new year.

As an owner of all three titles, I say: Gimme.
