Well… what can I say? Interesting things about video games, that’s what.
Apparently we all missed the Brink developer session for one reason or another, but there’s will be another one tomorrow! Upon realising this, we congregated upon the Avatar demo station. THE 3D ONE. And it looks freakin’ cool. We were all unanimously agreed that this was the best example of 3D technology that any of us have ever seen, and frankly, none of us want to ever play that game again unless it’s in 3D!
I then decided it was time check out the sequel to the game that absorbed my competitive online life for the longest time – Battlefield Bad Company 2. Unfortunately, the matches seem to last a while, and the queues were lengthy, so I decided to come back tomorrow for the hands-on experience. We did, however, enquire with the friendly EA representative as to whether we could get an interview, to which he replied, “We don’t do interviews, I’m afraid.” I was personally convinced he saw the ID badge and screamed “BOYCOTTERS” within his head, but we’ll never know, I guess.
MightyMutt scored an interview with the makers of LittleBigPlanet PSP, and as I type this, is in the process of interviewing one of the lovely fellows from Blackrock. We’ve also seen Heavy Rain, and Yamster successfully defended a shopkeeper from a gun-toting thug whilst MightyMutt dodged a lead pole in a scrapyard. My lazy descriptions of the in-game events aside, Heavy Rain plays remarkly intuitively and the graphics are fantastic… Which brings me to my next point in the update.
HELP! HELP! MY PS3(s) is/are ON FIRE!!! No fewer than three PS3s running Heavy Rain suffered system crashes, (un)coincidentally all at the same point in the demo. Code glitch? I think so. Yes, I do. But even then…the PS3 is just such a hot system right now. If you know what I mean.
I also checked out Dragon Age Origins on the PS3, but I was bitterly disappointed by the frame rate issues, combined with the less-than-stellar texture renders. This perhaps wouldn’t have bugged me so much had I not seen the game being played earlier in the day on a PC which ran it at 60fps without issue.
All in all it’s been a productive day thus far, and we still have plenty of things left to see and do today. We intend to check out the Developer Session for Army Of Two: The 40th Day in just over half an hour, as well as check out a few more games on the show floor (Left 4 Dead 2 with four players seems a high contender).
Also, the Press Balcony is seemingly always busy, and I’ve been sat on the floor multiple times upon my revival. On the other hand, FREE BEVERAGES.
