Choochoo! Trains don’t make that sort of noise anymore. In fact, the one I’m on at the moment is practically silent. And it tilts in the corners.

Why am I on board such a marvellous contraption? If the header image and the title weren’t much of a giveaway, I’m making my way down the country to London for the Eurogamer Expo!

As I write, it’s just after half one in the afternoon and I’ve just passed through some place in the middle of nowhere called Preston. Here’s an entirely useless map to illustrate:

Didn’t help? Good. Here’s the plan, anyway:

  • For the next two and a half hours I’m staying ridiculously comfy on this train and will probably tweet my brains out, as I usually do anyway. (@yamstersg, if you’re interested.)
  • At about 4pm my train pulls into London Euston station, at which point I hop onto an Underground train to East Finchley – famous for featuring McDonalds’ UK base of operations (depending on how you define famous) and residence of SG comic artist and provider-of-bed til Sunday, MightyMutt.
  • The chances are, MightyMutt will be in work until 5 o’clock and won’t be able to meet me until a good while after I arrive in Finchley. This means I will probably go to the pub to while the time away.

Now this, folks, this: this is what you call professional gaming journalism.

Don’t you worry though. The real deal starts tomorrow. For now, all I can do is sit on my extremely comfortable train, pig out on Coke, pretzels and sandwiches and enjoy complementary internet and power for my laptop.

It’s a tough life. isn’t it?
