While Uncharted 2 may be a few days away, the multiplayer demo is on PSN for everyone to sink their teeth into. Over the past few days, I’ve been playing the Deathmatch portion extensively, and have compiled a few starter tips to ensure that you don’t get slaughtered as you try out this platformer-shooter multiplayer hybrid.
Tips and tricks, after the jump.
The first order of business is to get yourself familiarized with the arsenal. Each map has a layout of different weapons scattered in different spots. The most powerful weapons will be tucked away, while the main weapons that you’ll be using for the majority of the match will be within your spawning point. Each weapon can be grouped into three subcategories: Rifles, Side Arms, and Heavy Weapons
First on the list are the rifles. You start off every standard round and spawn with the trusty AK-47. This weapon has a medium fire rate, and is quite effective at short to medium ranges. With a full auto rate of fire, you can quickly lay waste to approaching opponents. Be cautioned, as the longer you hold down the trigger, the less accurate it will be come. The drop off is so drastic, that unless your enemy is fairly close to you, you’ll have a hard time finishing him off. While this weapon is great for a spawn weapon, I will almost always drop this for my favorite gun in the game, the FAL.
This gun will always shoot in three-shot bursts, which means that accuracy will never falter when taking down enemies. My favorite part about this weapon is its range. While holding down L1, press R3 and you will be scoped in even further, allowing for almost “sniper like” accuracy. Three quick bursts to the head will almost always drop an enemy. If you learn how to aim at far targets with this little guy, you will be able to out snipe even those wielding the almighty Dragon Sniper, which is next on the list of rifles to use.
While the Dragon Sniper is one of the more powerful weapons in the game, I combined this with the rifles because, in comparison to the other heavy weapons, it has a higher ammo capacity. If you can aim carefully and quickly, the sniper rifle does not even have to zoomed in all of the way to be deadly. By holding down L1, a small reticule about the size of an opponent’s head will provide sufficient assistance in taking headshots of nearby opponents. This skill becomes extremely valuable on the Sniper and Pistole Deathmatch.
The final weapon in the rifle class is the M4. This weapon appears in odd places on the maps, so you won’t get a chance to pick it up as much as you’d like. To put it simply, the M4 is a blend between the AK-47 and the FAL. If you want a medium range weapon with great accuracy, the M4 will be your weapon of choice.
