Will it look anything like this? Possibly. Should you follow me if you aren't already? Totally.
Blur, the upcoming social-network-styled arcade racer (SNSAR?) from PGR dev Bizarre, is already shaping up to be a little different from most other racing games.
Aside from organising races and viewing photos, videos and challenges from other races through a number of faux social networking sites — with a classy puntastic name like Racebook or something — it’s just been revealed in the past day or so that the game will support your real Twitter account.
This presumably means that you’ll be able to automatically post race results “from Blur”. Maybe you’ll even be able to share photos — maybe even, squee, through Twitpic — or simply Tweet whatever you like from inside the game, saving you the effort of moving to the computer that’s probably adjacent to your console to do the exact same thing.
According to Joystiq, the Twitter integration in Blur is working on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game. That’s any notion of integration with the 360’s own upcoming Twitter application thrown out the window then.
While details are extremely thin on the ground, there’s one thing we can be certain of: it’s probably bound to be more irritating than Spymaster.
Thing is, this got me thinking. Could all games eventually support Twitter? Imagine finishing up Uncharted 2 and having the game Tweet your victory, along with a bunch of stats you could rub in people’s faces; maybe even have Rock Band post the names of songs you’ve just bought so that followers could easily challenge you or join in online.
I think that would all be pretty neat. Anyone else agree? Or, even better, can you think of great ways Twitter could integrate with your favourite games?
