I received a hot little rumor while walking the PAX grounds on Sunday. A friend had been playing Left 4 Dead 2 on the floor when his screen froze. He wasn’t being helped, or monitored, and he discovered a new weapon that has not yet been revealed…

While playing Left 4 Dead 2, his game froze. After hitting the guide button and apparently restarting a different scenario, he discovered a “Defibrilator.” When he discovered the item, the on-screen tips showed up and said something to the effect of, “revive your dead teammates.”
Wow… Shocking…
Adding a defibrillator to the game could drastically change how the game is played. For one thing, it would be fun as hell to shock the undead back into the abyss. I can only hope that there will be a nice shock effect that sends the zombies flying…
Also there’s that little, “shock your friend back to life” deal. Is it a one time, one use item? Would it replace one of your weapon slots? One can only guess as this hot little item remains a rumor only, at this point. I’m sure there’s more goodies that remain to be announced from Valve as the days go on. Let’s see if this rumor pans out.

interesting! but how would this change the balance of the game? its quite hard to kill the humans as it is…..
For them to keep a good balance in the game this would have to be a one time use only item. Maybe it would balance out by bringing them back only to the black and white screen from when you’re about to die. That gives them a chance to heal. Just an idea.
I think it would be better if it only revived downed team mates right away, because if you get ripped to shreds by a hunter then die, a simple shock isnt going to bring you back from the dead.
I can see this replacing a weapon slot and having a limited number of charges that can be used for either attack or reviving teammates. Unlike Saints Row 2, where you had unlimited charges.
I don’t know if it would be a good multiplayer weapon, as CayennSG points out, the human team is decidedly harder to kill, but guaranteed that if it is available in MP, there will be something equal to it for the zombie side. Maybe a Boomer that spews on the zombies and heals them also?
It’s one charge, and replaces the health kit.

I was playing the demo and was lucky enough to see this item.. it cannot be used as a weapon and it only takes up the health slot, its only to revive dead team mates =).
