Editor’s note: This is yet another in a long list of kick ass Sarcastic Gamer Survival Guides. If you want to check out the other ones in the series, click here for our list of guides for games like Call of Duty: World at War, GTA IV, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War 2 and Far Cry 2, among others.
So far, we’ve given you the guide for Newbies. That guide was a basic guide so you wouldn’t wet yourself the first time you run into a Brute Chieftain with only an SMG at your side. You’ve now spent some time with the Firefight mode and you’re looking to maximize your score and get 200,000 on each map to take you one step closer to getting all of your Achievements.
Well, you’ve come to the wrong place fanboy. If you’re looking to kick ass and see how big your Firefight cojones are, click on over for specific tips on Crater and Lost Platoon.
Scoring 200,000 points is not a big deal. Just put your skirt on, set Firefight to easy and sleep your way to 200,000. Points and Achievements are for guys that like Bowling Trophies and and carry pictures of their new boat with them. I don’t give a crap about your new boat. What I do give a crap about is seeing how long I can kick Covenant ass. Here’s a few tips for you more “seasoned” players.
In this guide, I’m going to give specific tips on Firefight Maps Lost Platoon and Crater. My tips are for playing on Heroic or higher, because, lets face it, you don’t need “tips” for the lower difficulty levels.
Crater (Daytime)
Special Weapons: Rocket Launcher and detachable Gatling gun turret
This is a deceptively tough map to master. It’s basically a square with three levels of elevation and only one obvious position that you can successfully defend. The key to surviving on this map is stairway control. As you spawn and exit the main door, you’ll see one turret that you can man and rocket ammo directly behind it against the wall. There’s also a rocket launcher, but it’s on the other side of the map underneath the overhanging balcony, and it’s very difficult to get.
There’s two stairways leading up to your defensible position. If you can keep bad guys from coming up those stairs, you’ll win. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. First of all, even if you assign teammates to guard each approach, stuff happens and people leave their post. Second, Drones and Flying Brutes will fly up to your position and bypass the stairs completely. Third, the balcony that you will guard is small and narrow, which means you won’t have much room to maneuver when a Brute Chieftain goes invincible on your ass.
There are a few things in your favor, if you work as a team. First, always send one guy down after each round to pick up the rocket launcher. It’s a treacherous run, but without a fully loaded rocket launcher, the Brute Chieftains will own you. Second, the Gatling gun turret can mow down everything. The only problem are grenades and fuel rod cannons ripping your fixed position apart. You’ll have to selectively decide when the best time is to jump on the turret. Ideally, I’ve found that the best time are when enemies first arrive, as they’re jumbled into large groups, which makes easy pickings for the Gatling gun. Leave the turret when the first sign of enemies at the bottom of the either one of the staircases. It is a bit arbitrary, but try to NOT stay long on the turret, as it makes you an easy target. Also, do not detach the turret, unless you see a Brute Chieftain, or pick it up if it has already been detached.
Last, but not least, your spawn area, which is shaped like an “H” and keeps your SMG’s and Magnum’s handy, is a bit of a safe zone. For the most part, enemies will not come into that area. This is great for recuperating lost stamina or retreating from an invincible Brute Chieftain.
Finally, remember to stick together, communicate and conserve your heavy weapons for the fifth wave of each round. If you can do that, you give yourself a chance to go all the way.

What do you suggest doing with the Hog after tilt gets turned on? In my experience the gun does almost nothing to anything with shields after that point. I have found that using the Chopper is than the best plan.
i love this map, but hardly any of my friends play firefight.
Good tips. But if you’re like me and like to show pictures of your boat, try to get the Vidmaster Endure achievement. You need to survive Firefight past set 4 on Heroic. I suggest playing on Alpha Site where the enemies funnel into the middle room and you can pick them off from the sides and watch flying Brutes kill themselves by falling down the elevator shafts. And getting 200,000 on each map won’t get you any closer to Recon.
you’re right, I fixed it.
2 Choppers > 1 Warthog in my experience. 2 choppers can completely own a group of enemies as they are dropped off.
An easy way to get a Chopper is to stand under the Phantom as it drops the Chopper off and you’ll get it straight away as it lands. Also don’t forget that pulling the trigger repeatedly fires faster than holding it in the Chopper.
yeah, two choppers are nice, but I prefer to use the Warthog until it goes kaput before using up any stored up Choppers. It’s all about weapon conservation.
As for Tilt, you can still run the summbitches over… So go for it.
Also on Lost Platoon it might be best to escort somebody that died back to the main base with the warthog. It’s easy to get spawn killed in that little room.
Hilarious article, I love Sarcastic Gamer… Ha ha haaaa!
