HEY SONY! TAKE OUR BLOODY MONEY FOR CRISSAKES!

Dear lord, it never ends, does it? It’s been a while since I’ve had a good moan about Sony officially sucking in Europe, but I think it’s high time I had a go at them again because they evidently lack any sort of cerebral cortex whatsoever when it comes to common business sense.

A tweet by the UK Official PlayStation Magazine pointed me towards a thread on the EU PS forums where ‘SamProtagonist’, an SCE developer, announced that the recently-revealed Game of the Year edition of LittleBigPlanet would not be hitting Europe. In his words: “there are currently no plans to release the Game of the Year edition in Europe.

If you’ve been out of the loop the past day or so, the GOTY edition of LittleBigPlanet gives you LBP in its entirety — obviously — and throws in the 18 best user-created levels (and some commentary by the creators) as well as a stonking amount of free downloadable content in the form of the Metal Gear Solid, Monsters, History and Animals themed costume and level packs.

On top of all that, you get a beta access code to Sony’s next big “play, create, share” game, the cutesy kart racer ModNation Racers.

Now, tell me what the frig Sony are thinking in not releasing this over here? LBP sold 300,000 copies in the UK and 600,000 in the States by around the start of this year. There are two million PS3s in the UK and around 6 million in the USA. If we’re talking in proportional figures, more PS3 owners are into their LBP in the UK than their Stateside cousins. This means more of us will obviously buy a new one, as we like shiny special editions of things.

Sony might be reasoning that a supercharged V8 version of LBP will help the sales in the States (be honest, they could’ve been a lot better..) but I’m thinking that the UK should get the same sort of treatment too. I would happily swap my current copy for some DLC and a ModNation Racers code, without a doubt.

[Dons tinfoil hat]: I’m beginning to think Sony just doesn’t like Europe, or that they’re just too scared of us to try and sell us things.

(DOC’S NOTE:  Cue “God Save The Queen”) The thing about us Europeans is that we like spending money. If we aren’t given nice things to spend our money on — like say, LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year Edition, just to name the first thing to pop into my head — we shall take our money elsewhere. And blow it all on hats and light sabers for our Avatars on XBLM.

Sony, we Europeans are all too happy to give you our dosh like the gormless consumer whores we are. So give us LBPGOTYE (mmm, acronyms) to spend our money on because we bloody well will, too.

Since EU releases require the game to be translated into a handful of different languages, I would venture to say that this is the reason that you will not not see LPBGOTYE in Europe.

Besides. couldn’t you just import the game for less anyway? I hear that all PS3’s are region free.
