If the internet has taught me one thing, it is probably too sexually explicit to share – if the internet has taught me two things then, it has also taught me that fanboy’s opinions blow – but am I an Ex-Xbot?
Find out after the jump…
The dawning realisation that I, MightyMutt, was a raving Xbot less than two years ago, comes as a bit of a shock – especially when you consider just how far removed from being an Xbox fanboy I have become. Partly due to improvements made by Sony and partly through the massive errors made by Microsoft - In less than two years I have gone from pointing and laughing at the PS3, to owning and loving one.
I was an early adopter of the Red Rings of Death, downloading it nearly as soon as it was available. Back then, just getting Microsoft to admit there was a problem was tricky;

So, why if I have a brand spanking new Xbox Elite am I still not happy with my 360? - Well, two things mainly; ( 1) No faith in the build quality of the machine – literally every time I turn it on I wonder if this will be the time the Red Rings reappear? Will I have to be without my console for the best part of a month yet again? (2) The Next Xbox Experience was the update to drastically re-design the 360 dashboard and introduced Xbox Avatars – I hate the NXE with every fibre of my gaming being.
Admittedly, the main problem I had, with menus taking 10 minutes to load, has just been patched out -and I still do not like the way you navigate through the pages of the dashboard and how far down you have to drill down into some pages to find certain options – However, it is the Wiitarded presentation and design of the dashboard that sticks in the back of my throat like sand licked from a camel’s nutsack.
It may be sound quite hypocritical, considering the art style I use for making gaming webcomics – but I like my games to be taken seriously. Not saying that you can not take the piss but I find it hard enough to get away from the ‘games are for kids’ misnomer without making them look like playthings. I have heard the PS3 system interface described as dull but I far prefer the elegant and simple design of my PS3 menus.
Microsoft need to understand that by throwing the gates open to the digital playground they are limiting the appeal of their wider digital world.
I am not saying there is no love left for my Xbox but there is this nagging doubt that if it was not for the mutual friends we have and that I would be lucky to get 50% back on the games we have together, that I could be happier if I ended this marriage of convenience to give more time to devote to my sexy black dressed PS3 mistress – she’s even looking a bit slimmer these days.
Does that make me a PS3 fanboy now – or just an Ex-Xbot?

it makes you an Ex-Xbot. dont worry i am one too. i used to just own a 360 but now i also own a ps3 too and i am finding out that i use my ps3 more than my 360. and my ps3 hasnt broke on me yet unlike my 360 so were in the same position mighty mutt. i overall am enjoying my ps3 more than my 360 now
We told you so!!
(yeah i’m kind of a sony fanboy.. sorry! but it’s only because the PS3 got so much hate)
The PS3 is like well experienced plus sized woman, for more the ounce you get twice the bounce.
Ex X-bot here as well. The 360 was once for the hardcore gamer, but sadly MS sold its soul for the wii ages. I too still like my 360, but am finding that I am starting to play my ps3 twice as much. Also have to agree that PSN marketplace > NXE. Everything is just tighter on PSN. Give us the old Blades back MS……
I’ve never had an X-Box, always a PlayStation man so I shouldn’t comment. But I will..
It seems to me that a built-in failure rate of 50% would turn everyone off a console except Microsoft employees. Are the games so much better on the 360 than the PS3? Are 360 exclusives like GOW so much better than LBP or KZ2? I’d go for the PS3 every time – it does more out of the box, it looks miles better in my opinion, even the new Karen-Carpenter version, and it’s a blu-ray player too!
So, no shame in being an ex-xbot I reckon.
Didn’t expect that the majority of people would agree with me, surprised that no devote Xbots came leaping to the 360’s defence – maybe devote Xbots don’t exist anymore = /
Red ring me once, shame on you. Red Ring me twice, shame on me – but Red Ring me three times and I’ll buy a PS3.
“It seems to me that a built-in failure rate of 50%…”…is actually much higher is real life!
“Give us the old Blades back MS” Good plan that man, I may have to make a campaign.
I tried both and I have to say I prefer the PS3. In my experiance, the 360 controllers are too big and clunky while the PS3’s controller is the right size, very responsive, and is very light (I have the Sixaxis only controllers). The ingame XMB of the PS3 I can only explain as “awesome” and the Dashboard for the 360 I can not understand at all and is very limited. Avatars are inferior to the might of Playstation Home. PS3 has exclusives like MGS4, Uncharted, LBP, GoW3, KZ2, and MAG and the only exclusives that stand out to me on the 360 is COD2 and the Burger King games. Pretty much the only thing the 360 has over the PS3 is the DLC. Fo3 got all the DLC’s (we have to wait until late Sept. until our first), they get all GTA4 DLCs, and they get the Yaris game. btw, you are an ex-Xbot.
