I am going to level with you; this post contains perhaps the most radical image you will see all day. Honestly, if you can find something better, then you deserve a medal. The picture is of a secret “kourt” that Midway created for an unspecified home console version NBA Jam or NBA Hangtime. Notice the spelling of “court” in the previous sentence. Not a typo my friend. In addition to developing various NBA Jam titles, the now-defunct Midway was, of course, also responsible for the Mortal Kombat franchise. I assume that you can connect the dots from here.
According to IP co-creator Ed Boon, the NBA vetoed the Mortal Kombat-themed arena, thus preventing its public release. A shame really, but I guess the league wanted to maintain a family-friendly image for itself, as well as the undisclosed console port. As proof, Boon posted a picture on Twitter, which seems to be the new go-to favorite for news. Have a peek below.
Really, what is so bad about a basketball goal made out of a spinal cord? Aren’t those ubiquitous across the States? My neighbor has a hoop made completely out of intestines. Though, I have always suspected him to be a serial killer, so perhaps it’s not that normal.
You know what would have been more awesome than a themed court? The inclusion of Mortal Kombat fighters as playable characters. Imagine Kano draining threes or Sub-Zero performing a windmill dunk. To sweeten the pot, Goro and company would have been able to finish their challengers with signature Fatalities. My head just exploded. Excuse me while I collect the pieces.
