inFamous: More fun the evil way

No spoilers here, just some friendly advice.  If you’ve still not had the privilege of playing inFamous, I’d like to reccomend that you skip the goody-two-shoes “Heroic” manner of play and get down and dirty with an evil existence.  You get more cool crap, and that’s why we play video games right?

Half the residents in the quarantine zone look like living commercials for Medic Alert, having fallen without the capacity to get back up.  As a “Good” player the temptation is to heal everyone which is very inconvenient.  Playing as an evil guy removes the stigma associated with playing medic for half the city, and drastically speeds up gameplay.  PLUS, as an evil guy, nobody is gonna think twice if you suck the juice out of a few pedestrians to keep up your fighting ways.

On top of that evil perk, you also get RED electricity for being a bad guy, which everyone knows is 10 times cooler than blue.  In combat you can be as sloppy as you want, and use a whole lot more of the environment to take down the bad guys, when you aren’t worried about beaning a librarian with a buick.

My first time through I stuck to the straight and narrow, and it made the game drag for me.  Being good is really boring in inFamous, when compared to the relative freedom of playing as a badass who couldn’t care less.

Perhaps the greatest addition to the “plus column” of evil-doing is the posse you can assemble.  Good guys, in this game, seem to work alone, whereas playing inFamous as an evil character will eventually yield a group of thugs that roll wit ya and bust caps when its time to throw down.

Whatever you do, pick one or the other.  Playing half the game as evil and the other half as good is going to rob you of some very necessary powers and upgrades, and lead to a very disjointed game experience.

So, if you haven’t started yet, might I reccomend an evil play-through.  If you’ve finished as a good guy, playing as evil is WORTH another 20+ hours for the perks it yields.

I played it through on good at first, now I’m playing it as a bad guy, but how far in is it when you get the group of thugs with you?

I think it was second island? ugh now I’m drawing a blank.

yeah it’s the second. I totally agree, I played like half way through as good and then quit and started an evil game. Best choice I made the whole game.

I’d have to agree with Doc. As I started up the game I was running down the street and heard some car passing by with an annoying subwoofer stereo. I quickly blasted it with some electricity and it blew up into pieces. The karma meter said this was an evil act.

If that was evil then I don’t want to ever be good.

I did what Astro nit did and played through the first time as “good” simply because I wanted the challenge- having to heal people to keep your karma up, never being able to use the thunder drop technique, and having to be very liberal with the grenades. God I can’t wait to play through now as a baddie = )

I played through good first time and now i’ll play through evil on my next play through. Even being good in that game is still fun as hell for me so…

Damn, wish I had known this. I’m always the goody two shoes in games like this my first run through by default.

      Totally agreed. Especially once you…

I can kill a pretty good amount of civilians as a good character and my karma barely budges. Randomly kicking people if I want, and I am barely ever careful about not hitting them while im huntin down dust men. If some dork gets in my way I usually wont stop myself to make sure he is safe. I can suck souls (I forget what the ability is actually called) from enemies often as well, and even with all that, I usually have Karmic Overload ready. I like being a good character, from Fallout to Bioshock. That all being said, I do wanna see these cool evil abilities on my second play thru of infamous. I just finished all the side quests in The Warren so Im not too far from finishing now.

I totally screwed myself by doing the first couple missions as evil and then switching to good. I finished as a hero but without all of the benefits that a straight good playthrough includes. Now I guess I’ll be playing through the game twice more to knock out the trophies. Thankfully the game is enjoyable enough to warrant three playthroughs.

Being a bad guy, you don’t have to be careful!! hehehehe…..
