Coming Soon! HALO Laundry Detergent! Obliterates Stains Like The Flood!

If you’re into HALO, then, boy, you’re about to get a HALO enema over the next twelve months. Comic-con was last weekend, and with it brought the announcement of yet another HALO based project, HALO: LegendsLegends is a series of five anime style mini-movies, each developed by a separate Japanese anime studio.  This seems to be very similar to what the Animatrix anime did for the Matrix series prior to the trilogies finale.

On top of that, Microsoft announced its own latest addition to the lineup, the HALO Waypoint. From what sources can tell, it almost looks like a Playstation Home style place you can go from the Xbox Live main screen where you do…HALO-y like things.

So that’s the good news.  I’m not a giant HALO fan, but I wouldn’t kick it out of bed, if you know what I mean.

This latest series of announcements has caused me to raise an eyebrow, however.  I may not be a fan, but it seems like Microsoft is cashing in on the franchise by spamming as much HALO-inspired content at us as quickly as possible.  We had HALO Wars come out in March, HALO: ODST is scheduled to release late this year, followed up shortly thereafter with HALO: Reach next summer.

That’s a whole megaton of HALO franchising in a very short amount of time.  How many series have you ever heard of dropping this many products this quickly on top of each other like this?  Hell, some episodic content takes longer than this to produce (I’m looking at you Halflife 2: Epsiode 3).

I mean, what’s next?  Freakin’ HALO the RPG?  Wait, that might be kinda cool.  HALO Tower Defense.  Wait, that might be cool too.  HALO the Saturday morning cartoon with matching lunchbox?  HALO the breakfast cereal?  Who is protecting the licensing of this title?

I’m just saying.  Whadda think?  Is too much a good thing in this case, or is Microsoft trying for a quick buck from the legions of faithful HALO fanboys?

So if Master Chief was in your bed, you’d have sex with him?

What exactly is HALO? Help Alcoholics Love Octopi?

Perhaps you mean Halo, which is a best selling series of games for the Xbox and Xbox 360. They are not for the X-Box or the XBOX.

Also is a (hopefully) well-produced anime series an attempt to get a “quick buck”? And where are you getting the idea that any Halo game would dare be released in summer?

I was actually interested in ODST but it’s become too much. I’m sick of hearing about Halo.

I keep reading more and more articles/reviews/videos around the net that are hinting to valve that they should get there but plug shaped thumbs out of there a-holes and finish on hl2-ep3, dam it’s starting to get to me.

And I know that’s beside the point, so, can anyone tell me if there’s ever going to be a halo 3 on PC? I’m not going to buy X360 just so I can play a couple of games, well, if they don’t release it on PC then I can’t play it which will be a shame cos I liked the first 2. Microsoft do really piss me off sometimes, whilst this article critises MS for pouring a torrent of HALO onto the console guys I’m equally pissed at them for the opposite reason. GRR!

MS is having a hard time finding another good idea to buy. Or maybe they are a little strapped for cash after buying the tech for NATAL. It isn’t too long ago that they layed off a whole bunch of people. They have spent so much time buying ideas that they wouldn’t have a clue as to how to come up with one.

My bad about the capitals. Just used to seeing ODST and my brain kinda went with it.

At first..i was sick of halo. Cuz to behonest its not such a good game as everyone claims it to be. And then i played HALO WARS. Which got be back into the game and now i feel like playing 1 2 and 3 again and cant wait till odst.

Play some Halo Wars for a good Halo refresher. : D

I stand by my first statement. Microsoft is making Halo 3 a trilogy in and of itself. We have yet to see “Halo 3: The Flood Strike Back”

  • PCsvApple says:

Halo Reach comes out in Fall 2010. Not summer…

  • Belz says:

Ugh, I’m a a fan of Halo (not a fanboy, just a fan) and i have to say i would like to see a good two to three year gap between the release of Halo ODST and Reach. Too much Halo too fast, their going to burn themselves out, give people time to really get excited for it again. Oh and by the way what exactly is Halo Reach? Is it another ODST-like extension to H3 or is it a new game altogether.

  • Timewarp says:

This is what happens when we all praise one game over the others, everyone basically said halo 3 was the greatest games and now we’re being suffocated by the halo fanchise. Congratulation everyone who praised halo 3 you’ve doomed us all.

    @ Chubbaluphigous

This is not about MS running out of ideas. It is them continuing production of a proven franchise that almost guarantees them ridiculous amounts of money. It’s why we get movie sequals of popular movies and video games, because the companies knows they will sell. Brand name recognition is the buzz word here, and with Master Chief being the poster child of the X-box, I would be surprised is Microsoft DIDN’T keep pumping out more Halo games.

And everyone, ya’ can stop with the doom and the gloom outlook on Halo. No on is forcing you to purchase anything, watch anything, or read anything.
