SG Review: Blood Bowl (PC)

I adore this game, and many of you will know that I’ve been raving about it since pre-beta (see my original Preview HERE. Also, I stole its banner image because I’m lazy). Unfortunately, however, it has not been designed well for new players. The tutorial is severely lacking, and frankly, the only way a new player to the game will get a true grasp of the rules will be to play – and lose – a lot of friendly matches. This is a game that has seemingly been developed BY Games Workshop fans, FOR Games Workshop fans. The Warhammer, 40K, Nercomunda, Gorkamorka and existing Blood Bowl fans among you will feel right at home here. Especially since the game comes with the option to play either the classic miniatures game rules, or the updated ruleset designed specifically for the video game (not a lot of difference there, other than a few new abilities).

That said, it IS hella fun. And even if it requires a painstaking week of drilling the Tutorial and several matches into your head, you’ll likely enjoy the resulting experience to a great degree.

Blood Bowl – The Video Game is available now for PC from the Official Website and will be released via Steam, and on Xbox 360, DS and PSP later this year.

looks like its a really cool game but im not sure if i want to spend fifty dollars right now on it. is it worth that much money?

@DUFF McWALIN: I’d say yes, primarily because I’ve played over 20 hours of it so far and am not the slightest bit bored. But for anyone not already into the Warhammer universe, I’d suggest waiting until it inevitably comes out cheaper on Steam (or at least until a demo comes out).
