Update: An error existed in the original donate link. It has been corrected. Thanks to EVERYONE who brought this to our attention.

As many of you know, I recently left my full-time position in radio to work for Children’s Miracle Network.  Our organization helps raise money for children’s hospitals all over the US, UK, and Australia.  Because of this new job, I’ve had the opportunity to visit with quite a few CMN hospitals over the past few months.  While I’ve had the pleasure of meeting numerous kiddos and their families, none have had quite the effect on me as a young lady named Amberlyn who is currently awaiting a lung transplant in Austin at Dell Children’s Hospital.

Amberlyn suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, an incurable and dangerous disease that causes mucus to build up in the lungs, which keeps her from being able to get the air she needs when she breathes.  Because of this, she takes “meds” that she inhales as many as 4 times a day to try to keep things clear.

At last check Amberlyn is number 2 on the waiting list for a new lung.

As we chatted and goofed around, Amberlyn noticed my bracelets that I wear for Tori and Kaliegh.  I told her about both of these little heroes and asked if she, Amber, had a bracelet I could wear too.

She said she didn’t, but then she winked and said that if she DID have one, she would want it to be green.  She might as well have asked me outright, because there’s no telling such an incredible young lady “no”.

Here’s why I think Amber deserves to have her own bracelet, and why I’d like the SGC’s help to give them to her.

Not only is Amberlyn a brave young lady, taking on a deadly disease with a remarkable and infectious smile and attitude, but she’s also very generous.  Amberlyn and her mom started their own non-profit 501c(3) called Amber’s Angels.  Each Christmas, Amber puts her own pain and needs on hold to raise money for some incredible gifts for other children who are spending the holidays in the hospital.  She assembles these gift baskets herself, often from her own hospital bed.

I think Amber’s Angels deserves its own bracelet.  A green one.

So you’ve no doubt seen these rubbery bracelets which seemed to get their start with the LIVESTRONG campaign and have since been used for everything from charities to sneaker companies.

I’d like YOU to help us provide a TON of GREEN bracelets to Amberlyn by donating a couple of dollars towards having as many of these Ambers-Angels.org bracelets made as possible.  We’ll take donations for a week, and then place Amber’s order.

Once it comes in, we’ll head over to Austin and personally deliver these bracelets which will be quite a pleasant surprise for Amberlyn (so nobody better squeal)

Any remaining money after placing Amberlyn’s order will be donated directly to her charity.

Thanks in advance for ANY HELP you can provide, whether its a small donation or just helping to spread the word.

Unfortunately I have no way of donating at this time. (Believe me! I’ve been wanting to buy things offline too, but I don’t have any online funds! D: )

But I will gladly retweet this and try and drum up support for this amazing young woman.

She puts her own pain aside to help those in a needing situation, and that’s something the world needs more of these days.

I truly wish I could help in more ways..

THANK YOU ALL. It’s fixed now. If you can’t contribute in dollar, please do so in deed. Tweet it or tell a friend. Email someone.

Sorry for the mistake. I’ll update the post to reflect the fixed donate button, and periodically to let everyone know how much has been raised.

why do i get the idea doc and sean broke into a hospital and that the girl’s smiling becasue doc promised her $50 if she smiled when they took the picture, Jokes.

It seems like a good cause but unfortunly i don’t have a credit card so i can’t spend money over the internet.

    • Doc says:

@Timewarp perhaps you could tell a friend.

    • DUFF McWALIN says:

i know its not much (is it ever too much to donate to someone deserving like this? i dont think so) Doc but its all i could give right now. i hope she can get her transplant and get healthy again. what a great story.

    • Timewarp says:

TBH i was scared that people might take my joke too seriously and start telling me how i was rude for insulting doc when he’s trying to give back to he’s community. Just to double check, just a tongue in check joke.

    • Paul says:

      Wow, what a great cause…

BTW, Doc, you look a little scary in that picture…. I liked you better at E3 when you looked like Jonny Knoxville.

    • MrSnarkyPants says:

@Timewarp, I’m glad you clarified that, because I’ve watched Doc shed real tears over the kids he works for. (Yeah, I know your paycheck says CMN, but you’re working for the kids.)

      I’m in, tweeted, and Facebooked.
