While totally in love with the gameplay offered by inFamous for the PS3, the missions towards the end of what I assume to be the first act were really wearing on me. Essentially: kill all the reapers.
This game is fun but incredibly repetitive. I mean the game repeats itself. It’s the same thing over and over. Jump and I’ll try not repeat myself again. I won’t say the same thing over and over. I won’t be repetitive.
The morality choices offered in the “Black Water” missions were just lame, and they carried virtually no consequences other than a few seconds of blurry vision. The underground challenges to restore power were less than challenging and the actual missions seemed like 4 different names for the same thing.
The END of that first act, however, more than made up for the grind, as you hold off wave after wave of reapers who are hell bent on destroying a crate full of medical supplies. The boss battle in the sewers, while not overtly difficult, was interesting.
As I emerged on the new section of the city, I couldn’t help but think: “here we go again”.
I’m starting to dread the rest of the game. If the challenge doesn’t increase or the battles don’t diversify, I can see me getting bored with it, even if I CAN sorta fly now. Sorta.
PHave any of you finished the game yet? Is there better stuff coming?

The best part about the game is how the enemies change from island to island. You’ll find a whole heck of a tougher challenge from the Trashbag men. They have new enemy types and mini-bosses to keep you on your toes. Stick with it.
Ironically enough, you get to do most of what you just said (including defending the medical supplies) in the demo, which I wasn’t in love with. People accuse me of playing into the hype, and maybe I’m guilty sometimes, but the demo alone didn’t live up to the hype enough to me. They showed you good/evil and I didn’t feel like I was playing any differently. Jumping off a train to go charge up the tracks got tired. Maybe I need to re-visit the demo and just goof around more.
Great concept, bland execution (or “electrocution,” if you want to be punny about it).
Yes, near the end of each island, the missions gets kinda repetitive, and unfortunately this happens on the second island as well, but the third is better. What basically happens (no spoilers) is in a story mission so have to destroy 4 or 5 targets, and then there are few side missions that have you destroy only one of those targets. Its boring, but if you’re not a completionist, I’d just ignore those missions. Also, about the boss, the first island boss is the best IMO, but there are other mini-bosses throughout the game.
The repetition comes in the side missions. The main story missions vary a lot more. The side missions on the other hand will just take a mission from the story and have you do it again, and again. some are more fun than others, but they can be totally over looked if you don’t want to do them.
Well, attempting to keep my Sony Fanboyism out of this I did thoroughly enjoy this game. I finished it on my 1st run through and am still planning to play it again so I can get platinum (yes, trophy whoring is 1 of my motivations). I can see how it might be repetitive even though I didn’t find it so but I do also think the missions are much more diverse and enjoyable on the latter islands. There are less ‘Restore power to unlock power’ missions and more story based missions ramping up to the finish. I would say carry on, but if you’re losing interest forget the side missions.
I think Yahtzee’s got it figured out http://bit.ly/Sn2JY
The mission structure itself doesn’t change all that much, but like the previous commenters have said, the variety of the enemies makes this one worthwhile.
You’ll also run into more than a few more missions that are even more epic in scale than the medical crate one. There’s nothing more satisfying in the game than the “chunk-chunk” sound of you melee’ing the crap out of one of those trashman conduits.
And even though this is near the very end, the last power you get changes the whole face of the game. Stick with it, Doc. You’ll be glad you did.
Yes they do get repetitive sometimes but the enemies do get a lot harder. Especially the enemies on the third island. The missions do start to diversify but the side missions stay pretty repetetive. The coolest mission is turning on the three power generators above ground on the third island. I LOVED defending those things.
normally i would moan about how the other people involved are only moaning becasue it’s on the PS3 but even i have to edmit the demo was boring. Ever time i see infamous i’m constantly thinking “yeah but prototype’s ten fricken times better” i think sucker punch were using the whole exclusive to the PS3 to trick PS3 owners into buying the game by making them think this was some kind of way of getting back at the 360 gamers.
Not any more repetitive then GTA, which people seem to love.
If your bored or doing side missions, try just doing it a different way. Say do 1 kill the truck mission on the ground blowing up cars, then the next on a building sniping people.
I blew through this game, loved every second of it.
Or, just bag the side missions who cares. Just play the main story. But damn the ending was good, I loved it.
i’m sorry, but which game is not repetitive? I’ve finished playing this game, and seriously, it ROCKS! It gets better like some of the ppl said here. The ending just blew me away…
Admittedly I’m focusing on the story-missions, not the side-missions, but I’m not finding the game repetitive in a _bad_ way. I’m part way through the 2nd island and LOVE the things mentioned above as you progress… new enemis, new environments, roaming mini-bosses, etc.
Doc, if you’re playing ever “yellow” mission, try sticking to the “blue” ones for a while to break the monotony you seem to be experiencing. Everything’s better when you pick blue, I mean SG Blu!
yes it is repetitive, but really after a while you forget that your doing the same thing multiple times, because the situation changes and the enemies change as well.
I love this game. However… I was half way through the 2nd island before I realised that I could spend XP on boosting my powers! When I found that out, it became like a cross between GTA / Crackdown and Hancock.
Seriously though, this is one of the few games that I can see myself playing through to completion and then replaying to see what evil-me looks like
