E3 2009: The Hangover

Jesus H Lewinsky, what the hell was that all about?  I’m cruising through Sarcastic Gamer this evening trying to get caught up, and apparently some pretty crazy stuff happened last week.  If I’m to believe what I am watching and reading, I went to E3 last week and saw all kinds of cool stuff.  huh…  funny thing is I can’t really remember much of it at all.

E3 2009 was a blur of faces, games, trailers that all seem to start off slow and build to dramatic timpani drums, and even booth babes. While I’d been there before, this year was different for reasons that went beyond attendance and show floor size.  It was the hardest I think I’ve ever worked on a “vacation” from my real job.

I think the misconception from a lot of people is that going to something like E3 is just days of wandering around playing video games.  Not by my experience.  While there were a ton of games to play, I spent at least 5 times more of E3 in the media workroom trying to get the coverage out and onto the site before we gathered even more.  I saw more of the back of Jim Sterling’s head at his workstation than I did headshots in MAG.

I’m not complaining, not in the slightest.  But this year’s avalanche of games and content certainly changed the way I experienced E3.  While I can’t speak for the others, I can say without hesitation that I was excited to go to E3 this year, and very eager to come home when it was over.

Thanks to everyone who watched us ATTEMPT to cover E3 2009.  If you enjoyed it, well… PAX is right around the corner!

Shouldn’t Rothbart be the one with the beard?

From the community, thank you thank you thank you to everyone who went to E3 and got the great coverage. I thought the videos and livechats were well worth it. GTR had some good stuff going on, but I think SG pulled through with a better style.
