E3 2009: Battlefield 1943 Impressions

1943

For some strange reason EA sent Battlefield 1943 out into the main hall of E3. I guess downloadable games don’t get to share the same booth as sports game sequel central aka the EA booth. I wanted to check out Battlefield, I am a huge fan of the 1942 franchise, and on the last day of E3 I did.

Check out what I thought after the jump.

Right off the bat I noticed how much it looked and felt just like Bad Company. Makes total sense since they used the same engine to give those 7 year old graphics a booster shot. It looks great and it’s very easy to pick up and play. It does however have the one thing that used to upset me about BC and that’s inaccurate fire. This really shows when you aim an SMG, it has a Halo like circle that gets slightly smaller and makes it a pain in the ass to hit people that aren’t standing right next to you.

There were 3 combat load outs: rifle and rifleĀ grenades, SMG and rocket launcher, and sniper rifle with explosives. After choosing one of those it was time to kick some ass on Iwo Jima. The game mode was conquest, and after figuring out where I was in relation to the enemy I was good to go. Oh snap, a tank!

In 1942 you had to drive around things like sand bags and barbed wire, no longer the case. Just plow straight through them and towards the enemy. Sadly there isn’t much cover for tanks, which makes you a sitting duck for planes circling overhead. I was ripping though enemy infantry when in the top corner of my screen I saw an airplane diving in on me. His wheels were down and he landed on me, boom we’re both dead.

It was a lot of fun and is a must own even though it will only release with 3 maps. They will be adding extra maps the more the game is played, when this game comes out all of you need to buy it and play it so I can get more maps. Please.
