At this years E3 Sony Press Conference, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment, Kaz Hirai told the crowd: “We went on the road, visiting with publishers, developers and gamers, to ask how we could make the PSP better. And this feedback actually went right back to our engineering team and led to changes in the design and the features of the PSP.”

Oh really?

Check out what I thought about the new PSP; why I am glad the PSP 3000 will be sticking around, my take on the new features, and the upcoming titles after the jump!

Check out the PSP Go E3: 09 Conference Trailer.

Kaz was not kidding when he called the PSP Go “the worst kept secret of E3.” Everyone KNEW a new PSP was on the way, we just needed someone to say “yeah, it is official.”

Yamster has already dished on the official specs for the PSP Go, so I will focus on what I liked, disliked, and where I think the PSP Go fits in the portable gaming realm.

From a strictly visual standpoint, the PSP Go is the best looking PSP hands down. It looks slick, cool, compact and convenient. Assuming there are no issues with it, I think the slide screen is a great improvement. It makes the PSP more compact and attractive. Mind you, it was never on my list of “things the next PSP needs.”

Which brings up Kaz’s (see above) little tale about visiting publishers, developers and gamers to ask for their input on the next PSP. Why would they even bother? Everyone who has ever picked up a PSP has been recommending the same improvements since the very first PSP came out. Instead of addressing them all at once, we have gotten small incremental improvements in the form of the PSP 2000 and PSP 3000. A better screen, a more light weight system etc…

I think it’s safe to say the top three (in no particular order) desired improvements among gamers have always been:

1. Get rid of the UMD (Not because we hate tangible media, but rather because UMD’s are not convenient, or durable, and they eat power.)

2. Lose the stupid memory sticks and give us a REAL HDD. (The fact I could get an Ipod or a Zune with more built-in space than my PSP was always a bit irritating.)

3. Give us DUAL ANALOG STICKS! For the love of all that is great in gaming!

i dont get why we cant have the second stick, its not like we couldn’t play older games on it (the old stick would still be there) and games could really move forward in terms of gameplay.

although i am looking forward to LBP

How do you play LBP w/o two analogs? It just doesn’t seem right! :(

Big disappointment. There is no way, no way in hell they went on ANY road and visited ANY gamer to ask how they could better the PSP. I’ll give you the cool looking and yes, I probably will buy one but still, that quote alone about “how we could better the PSP” is an out and out lie due the lack of a second analog stick, period.
