It looks like the rumors are true… Sony does have a new motion control device in the works. As reported, it does use the Playstation Eye camera and different colored markers, but it appears that the use of colored LEDs may have been a bit off the mark. Sony doesn’t just take away features from the rumor though, it appears there’s also a sonic element within the controllers that is picked up by the microphone array in the Playstation Eye.
Keep reading to learn more about this exciting new technology…Apparently Sega has been working closely with Sony on this new technology and one of the first games to take advantage of it will be Samba de Amigo Mariachi Fever HD which is rumored will support true 1:1 motion tracking for the most realistic and exciting maraca gameplay available today.
When asked why motion tracking of this degree would be initially showcased by a maraca playing rhythm game, Sony deferred to Sega’s spokesman who replied “If you’re going to go out there and put yourself in front of all your friends, the last thing you want them to say is ‘You’re doing it wrong!’ so we’ve ensured that when you play the new Samba de Amiga title, you WILL be playing the maracas like a professional. Not many games can make that claim. Certainly Rock Band and Guitar Hero can’t.”
When asked how this technology would be used beyond Samba de Amigo, the researchers from Sony’s Cambridge studio both looked at each other nervously and almost in unison replied “This interview is over.” Sarcastic Gamer will bring you more news on this story as we’re ab0le to shake loose new details.
