Ohhhh the rumours will just never cease, will they? If it’s not the 360 getting Blu-ray that’s setting the rumoursphere aflame, it’s the 360 getting MGS4. Today is no different, with some bloke on Twitter setting everything alight…or not.
See what I mean over the jump.
TheSixthAxis reported that Twitter user GameFork was blabbing about Microsoft’s plans for E3 in a couple of weeks, with regards to a rumour that the 360 was getting, yes, an exclusive edition of Metal Gear Solid 4, subtitled +Oxide. It will, apparently, conclude the conference for Microsoft in as epic a fashion as Final Fantasy XIII did just this time last year.
Y’see, that’d be credible if my inner MGS fanboy wasn’t bubbling up with common-sense rage. When MGS2 Substance, the second game’s “expanded edition”, hit the Xbox and the PS2 way back in 2003, the only people I knew that bought the game were PS2 owners. My Xbox-owning buddies just were not interested in Solid Snake.
Apparently I wasn’t the only one, because Snake hasn’t graced a Microsoft console since. No MGS3, no MGS3: Subsistence and no MGS4. The latter is perhaps understandable – insert as many references to the Blu-ray Codec gag as you like here – but the others? Snake and Microsoft simply don’t seem to go together.
Now, common sense aside, let’s try and look for some credibility in this bloke’s Twitter. First up, there’s no actual game site other than this Twitter page so they can’t be that big; if that’s the case, how can they pick up a review copy of APB: All Points Bulletin, the new game from Crackdown developer Realtime Worlds, straight from Microsoft when the game itself hasn’t even been given a release date?
When asked for proof of playing APB, GameFork put off showing it until saying they were simply “too into playing the game”. Considering that it’s a PC game at the moment, is pressing PrintScreen and pasting it into Paint really so hard to do?
I could ramble on about him apparently picking up a “patched up alan Wake” today, but I think you can see where the credibility has gone; somewhere down the pan, if you haven’t got it yet.
Rumor? Pah. Rumor smashed.

*rubs face in frustration*
Why do 360 users do this? It would be like PS3 owners saying that Halo 3 is coming to the PS3 in the next year or so, just to p*ss off 360 fanboys who love their beloved title.
If 360 owners get a better version of MGS4, I DEMAND a better version of Halo 3 for the PS3!
I do not doubt that this will happen. However right now it is too soon.
Well, seeing as how Konami just lost Six Days in Fallujah, I think it would be a smart financial move to port it to the 360.
Here’s the skinny:
1) It’s a proven, quality title
2) It’s a small investment for a potentially massive amount of return
3) It already sold 4 million copies. Consumer demand is there.
4) Metal Gear Online might actually be put to good use.
Xbox live wouldn’t make MGO good at all. You know why? Because MGO isn’t any good.
no it wouldn’t. As a PS3 owner i can’t see how this is in the least bit fair, you don’t se gears of war being ported to the PS3, also how would it even work? Konami would have more luck helping capcom port resi 5 onto the wii.
MGS4 is too big to port to the 360 and anyway i don’t want it on the 360 it’s one of those games that you can use in an argument against annoying 360 fanboys, you don’t want to have them telling you “yeah but soon enough microsoft will get that to and make DLC that you can’t get!” if they did i would seriously have to hunt down bill gates and kill him with a hunter’s knife….and maybe kill jack thompson while i’m at it! ^_^
HELL NO! I hope this is just a rumour as MGS4 should stay as a PS3 exclusive.
When MGS2 Substance, the second game?s ?expanded edition?, hit the Xbox and the PS2 way back in 2003, the only people I knew that bought the game were PS2 owners. My Xbox-owning buddies just were not interested in Solid Snake.
So what, all of my friends bought the 360 Version of GTA.Does that mean it was dumb from Konami to sell it on the PS3 too?Thats like you mentioned Fanboy-ism at its best!
But wait… the 360 _IS_ getting a Blu-ray add-on… Bwaahaahahahahaaaa!
*runs*
It’s a complete bluff. Though I’m still holdin’ on to the hope
Why is that Timewarp? Is it because it is one of the maybe 3 exclusive PS3 titles that is any good? Any company only releasing on the PS3 is losing out on revenue. By making a 360 port they would at least double the games sales in less then a week. I don’t care what they would have to do to make it work THEY SHOULD DO IT! Is the game too big to fit on a 360 disk? That is one problem with Sony’s Blu-Ray. It takes money form the publishers because they can’t put their game out on multiple consoles. I would like to know how much money Sony is spending to bribe companies to keep some games exclusive. *end longest rant I ever wrote*
FAIL PROOFREADING:
“By making a 360 port they would at least double the games sales in less then a week.”
Should be
By making a 360 port of MGS4 they would at least double the game’s sales in less then a week
@ s.t.a.n.
If they (sony) didn’t keep it exclusive think about the hardware sales they would have lost to the competitor. … you go on and on about them making more money through software sales but all I understood from your “rant” is that you’re a jealous fanboy who wants a game so badly and still won’t come to terms that it might, nay, will never come to your beloved console.
