The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.
I’ve always been a fan of Roland Deschain, the troubled knight-errant gunslinger from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. So to hear that Rockstar was putting out a sequel to the 2004 Red Dead Revolver made me smile.
Get ready to slap leather after the jump!
What did you think I meant when I said “Slap leather”? Come on now, this is a family site.
I missed the original release of Red Dead Revolver in 2004 and kept away from it, not knowing I was missing out on an under-appreciated Wild West sandbox game.
However, when Activision and Neversoft released their version of the western sandbox game, Gun for the PS2, I was excited despite the lukewarm reviews it got from the major gaming sources. I was not disappointed, and again, enjoyed telling major reviewer sites to “Suck it, Trebek”, and proceeded to have fun with the game in spite of the “pros”.
Now, almost six years later, Rockstar has just released a teaser trailer for their sequel of Red Dead Revolver which is aptly named Red Dead Redemption, scheduled to be released in “third quarter (or fall) 2009″ for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. The trailer looks to have a smattering of gameplay elements involved in it, but it’s primarily pre-rendered.
Rockstar has not announced a Wii party version of the game, where you would most likely use the wacky motion controls to lasso things and shoot bottles off of picket fences.

Sweet, although for a second I thought there was gonna be a Dark Tower game or something…which would be incredibly sweet!
This game looks pretty cool. I was reading the preview on IGN and it looks like they’re putting some cool features into it. My only doubt is that it might get boring or repetitive. I mean, you can only ride a horse around places for so many hours; riding a horse in a game is obviously nothing like as fun as driving a car.
The pre-renders do look beautiful. I went to college in an area that was red rock, and spend a lot of time in the sandstone areas (for anyone who’s seen the new Star Trek movie, the planet Vulcan scenes were filmed in an area that my family goes to quite frequently). Point being, it looks very realistic and gives me a sense of familiarity – moreso than GTA IV.
I loved RDR, but haven’t played GUN. I did rent and beat Call of Juarez, and it was okay, but I liked the character development on Red much better.
this is going to be great. a lot of what looks like gameplay footage looks pretty lame, but who cares, it’s western gta!
I was getting ready for dinner tonight thinking about this article and realizing that yes, a Dark Tower game would be marvelous.
I’m fairly certain that someone is putting together a movie based on the series as we speak (good luck not fkcuing that up), but I was wondering how a game would work…linear FPS, I guess.
