Why is this man angry? He's not. Those are strains of joy.
Recently, some attention has been called to the advertisements gracing the pages of SarcasticGamer.com. Welcome to the 21st century—SG either charges per membership, or we put up with a few banner ads. Would it kill you to click on one once in a while? (Note: I know of no known cases where anyone has died as the direct result of clicking on a banner ad on SarcasticGamer.com. This website claims no liability for mental or physical health from any of the products being offered by our sponsors).
I tried it myself one time and was pleasently surprised. Find out what happened after the jump.
One day whilst perusing the site, an ad for a browser-based game caught my eye. “Odd,” I thought to myself, “an ad for a game on a gaming site? They must not understand the term ‘target market.’” I needed something to distract me from the sheer awesomeness of the articles I was reading, so I clicked it.
The game is Civony. You may have seen the ad—heck, it might be at the top of your browser right now, we really have no control over them, so I don’t know. It sounds very similar to what the name implies: a civilization game where you build stuff and ride a pony. Ponies, really? No. There are horses, but you don’t technically control them. Do you want to? I’m pretty sure there are a handful of bargain-bin Wii titles to help you fulfill your equestrian fantasies.
So what does Civony have? Like most civilization games, you start out pretty small. You begin with one village and are tasked with building various support buildings. However, you can’t build a barracks for soldiers without resources. Outside the city, there are resource fields. You can feel free to construct however many resource-gathering buildings of one type or another that you like, but I recommend keeping it balanced. In fact, I even lined mine up to make them pretty. From there, buildings can be upgraded to produce more resources.

If you look close enough on an HD monitor, you can almost tell that they're growing corn.
Like any game that uses resources, the Law of Diminishing Returns comes into play. There will come a point where it costs more time and resources to upgrade resource-gathering structures than the benefit of just building a new one. In that case, you upgrade your Town Hall, which gives you more resource fields to build on, and the cycle continues.

Dude, I don’t think anyone is really too annoyed with banner ads. I think the big annoyance is the guy talking about hats all day in the forum.
Lol @ Benton; totally agree, but the mods are working on it.
I’ve tried games like Travian, Ogame, Gladiatus, Knighthood, Mafia Wars…a whole host of freebee or free-mium sites. They’re all relatively good.
I’ll give it a try and see what it’s like.
Mafia Wars is my favorite Facebook distraction, I’ll admit. Thanks for being a part of my Mob, Shanghai. Now get back to World At War.
I’d have a look if I had broadband internet! But where I live, that’s a no-go!
