Read about what I think, after the jump:
Beyond Good and Evil was a great experience that I believe I’ve regrettably missed out on. Enough time has passed since its release that despite the pleas from an obstinate and vast fan-base; I’m probably never going to pick it up.
My understanding is that its plot was deep in a way that few have matched, and subject matter was niche enough to be remarkable. You play a character attempting to take down a corporation, not necessarily with your fists, but primarily with photographs. Revealing what malevolence the company revels in to an otherwise oblivious public.
Also: Talking pigs.
So, from my second hand knowledge of what the BGAE experience is, I could be mistaken for thinking the video above was definitely and without a doubt what the next game in the series would be. This has yet to be confirmed of course (this video hasn’t even come from Ubisoft, this is a leak, apparently the video was hosted somewhere that one would never predict) so my hopes are entirely settled pending further information. I could devote the next few weeks rewinding this video over and over trying to see the face of the lead role, but if this is real news, Ubisoft are intending to be as clandestine as possible with details, hopefully announcing at E3.
Like always, with the actual issue attended to, here’s the part where I clamber atop my soapbox and take a different approach to the topic:
I realise that Ubisoft have been pushing the open-world-climb-some-stuff experience for a while, but even if the gameplay takes this route, this will be little but a dream of what can be accomplished. This is obviously not in-game footage (pixels, seeing a lot of footage in my time etc), at best what we’re looking at here is forecasting intended for producers, at worst we’re looking at bullshot.
To close, If this is entirely genuine, I’m happy that work is really being done on this, and things aren’t going the way of 3D Realms.
Pillowfort: Greatest Dude who Talks About Games, feel like this title was placed on him unfairly (by his grandma)? Refute her logic.

I played BGAE, and this looks way, way different from that. I suppose it could be the case, noticing the stylizing of the cars being the same as in the official first trailer. The pace seems a little too frantic in this (obvious) cutscene for the original BGAE to hold up, but Ubisoft did indicate that they were taking a hard left with this one. Maybe the sequel truly is BGAE: Assassin’s Creed edition.
Paradigm13: I don’t think whoever made this wanted people to think it was a cutscene. The way the character and/or “player” seems to make mistakes and the way a lot of moves are repeated look more like in game action than a cutscene.
By no means am I saying that this is actually in game footage but I think that’s what they were going for
to me, it looks like a fake trailer made on a modified Mirrors edge Engine.
But then I never really played the first BGaE, so I’ve no idea how similar this is to it. But either way, it hardly looks entertaining to me.
That looks pretty cool. Mirror’s Edge in the Middle East with katanas.
it looks like mirrors edge in africa…
If that WAS in game footage I’d probably get sick of the camera angle real fast.
Kinda looks like a 3rd person Mirror’s Edge, but looks sweet no doubt
This looks to me like a heavily modded Assasians Creed, not BGaE 2 footage…
Suddenly…. Mirrors Edge, hundreds of them!
