brutallegend_primarylogo_cmyk2Tim Schafer’s latest project, Brütal Legend is nearing release and it’s about time we take an objective look at it talk about it!  For those that don’t know, Tim Shafer’s Double Fine Productions (they did Psychonauts) is teaming up with Jack Black to bring us an action adventure game intended to be the most brutally epic, metal infused, rockin-est game EVER!  That remains to be seen as we haven’t actually gotten to play the game yet.  What he have gotten to do however, is see some awesome screenshots from the game as well as learn quite a bit about the thought process that went into its creation.

Okay, horns back up.  Assume the position to rock!

The main character of Brütal Legend is hilariously named Eddie Riggs.  Being a massive fan of Iron Maiden, I immediately did a double take of that name.  Eddie is Iron Maiden’s mascott, drawn by artist Derek Riggs.  I’d probably buy the game at this point if it wasn’t total garbage.  Eddie is also voiced by Jack Black.  Just just to recap: talented developer, quality material referenced in the story/characters, funny guy doing the voicework.  Okay, let’s move on.

battersmithEddie builds a hot rod in the game he called “The Deuce” for some free-roaming sandbox vehicular mayhem.  If you’ve ever seen Jack Black going off about “metal”, you can pretty much guess how the world will look.  Mountains made of guitar amps, V8 engines rising out of the ground, etc.

doing-damageSure, it may look like God of War Gwar, but Tim Schafer (and Jack Black) promise it will be… what’s that word?  “Epic.”  No, I think the word was actually once again “metal.”
