No, no, no… not that Internet Search that’s been on the XMB forever, I’m talking about the (I think) new one.
Go to the games column of the XMB and pick a game/demo you have downloaded or a disc you have inserted and hit the Triangle button. You should now see a new Internet Search option. Select it and it dumps you into the PS3’s web browser with the results for a Google search on the item you’d chosen. I don’t recall ever seeing that before, but like many previous mandatory download, scantily documented firmware updates for the PS3, there is no way to go back and see for sure. Sometimes we just “find” little features like this…
Let me know, have you seen this prior to Firmware 2.70? Can you ever imagine using this? It’s not something I’m going to hate on, but it’s just an odd addition and it didn’t see to work on all types of media available from the XMB.
Sound off, what do you think? I totally just changed your mind about Firmware 2.70 being a let-down, didn’t I? LOL!

This came with 2.70. TheSixthAxis reported this at the start of the month, here: http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2009/04/01/more-firmware-270-details/
Did Sony discuss these things? To be honest, with so few features and so few updates even getting detailed changes, it’s entirely possible I just stopped LOOKING…
I’d still love to see Sony implement a “true” changelog in their firmware process…
Does it annoy you PS3 owners to constantly have firmware updates? The Wii gets them from time to time, and the 360 only gets them in the autumn.
I’m not too annoyed by it. They’re usually quick and easy, and it means we can get a stack of new features during the year rather than sitting waiting for a whole block of them annually.
No I like them, just as Yamster said it means we constantly get useful updates when they become available rather than wasting time that we could be using new features, waiting for an annual time slot. I actually get excited when I know a new update is being released.
@PyroTails: The folks that say they’re annoyed by updates can bite me. Unless they break something (which _has_ happened, but is relatively rare), then I’ve got no sympathy. They take a fraction of the time they used to and generally offer at least something useful/interesting.
Also, “constantly” is a pretty tough word to apply here… it’s not even monthly anymore.
I read that it was added in one of the screens before I downloaded it.
I don’t mind the firmware updates, but I really do wish they stuck that internet search beneath the “eject disc” button, as I use it a lot, so that while I walk over to where the PS3 is, I can just take the cd out easily. I know its really nothing, but its something that I’ve gotten used to doing, as soon as I quit a game, I hit triangle and eject the disc, but now I keep hitting internet search. its no big deal anyways, ill get used to it eventually.
