Yesterday, world famous author John Grisham announced on his website that he is teaming up with Square Enix (Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts) to produce a law themed RPG to be titled, “John Grisham’s Spectrum: Uphold the Law”
Details after the jump.
Spectrum is a turn based Final Fantasy style RPG starring Marcus Dominguez, a rebellious law student preparing for the bar exam in New Jersey.
Grisham quoted lead developer Mishayito Origato on his website, “At Square Enix, we are excited to work with Mr. Grisham to create a state of the art, Role Playing Game based on the exciting world of law.”
When frothing Grisham fans asked about the features of the game on Grisham’s blog Origato commented, “There are some great law based attacks in the works. Players will find themselves in battle with indecisive jury members, power hungry judges, and even overly demanding bosses. The player will use a combination of sharp words, convincing counter arguments, and a stroke of luck to defeat his foe.”
The majority of the game however, will consist of the player upgrading your primary weapon which starts as a standard ball point pen. 90% of the game will see you working on upgrading your pen, which will allow you to do more research on more difficult cases in the game. Screenshots of pen-based fighting were posted and look surprisingly good!
The rumor is that John Grisham was tired of seeing the success of author Tom Clancy in video games and wanted to get in on the action. The two have been book writing rivals for years and now Mr. Grisham is bringing the fight to video games.
Look for John Grisham’s Spectrum: Uphold the Law in 2010.
